I dunno, it's labelled as a rumor, but from the small comments that they (nintendo) have been making, this controller seems likely, and it even fits in with the current Rev. design.
Looks quite convincing, although earlier on this week Miyamoto said they hadn't finished the design of the controller. It could be a prototype for developers or something.
If it's true, it has 'gimmick' written all over it, much like the DS and its touch-screen bollocks, and the ill-fated T800-vision style VirtualBoy. Might be another step towards the SEGA-esque relegation of Ninetndo to just a game devloper, which would be a good thing in my opinion.
I remeber a while back one game magazine or another went off about how the controllers of the future would be self configurable, meaning that the controls are all done on a touch screen (ds style) but the could be moved around and such. It's a horrible description of a cool idea though.
Trev, I don't think N would be nearly the devs. they are now if they weren't trying to push their own console sales.
I doubt Nintendo will bail out now, they have a lot of money stashed away (tens of billions), as they have only posted 1 loss (i think 4th quater 2002 or something) since they were founded.
People seem to have the impression that the Gamecube is a flop. What they forget is that in sales figures the Cube is only 2 million units (worldwide) behind the Billbox. This is not a lot when you consider that Sony have sold 80 million PS2s, the amount of money Micro$oft have pumped into the Xbox, and the lack of 3rd party support for the Cube in the first place.
I have heard that Nintendo could afford 3 or 4 Sega Saturn-like cock-ups before having to quit the console business.
The main problem is 3rd party support, if the Revolution brings back developers then they will have a much easier time competing.
so... no buttons... you're supposed to move the controller itself to move the player, whatever now they're trying to fight obesity by forcing gamers to gymnastisise while playing games
Alex, I just thought I should point out that your numbers mean nothing, except for the playstation sole 80 million units. Umm, so how many XB's got sold so that we can then figure how many the GC sold.
Aggggge - I don't think that's the only way to play, I'm pretty sure there will be a digital pad/analog emulation on the controller.
Nintendo have stated exhaustively that they will not be releasing details on the controller this early, so that's cot to be a fake. The thing in that picture lacks the kind of ergonomics the GCN and even N64 controllers have, so there's no way it came from N.
at the risk of sounding boring there is an interesting philosophical debate here about the concept of "buttons" - ie: selecting - i guess the next inovation will be virtual reality where you just think it - clicking will seem very antiquated???
to start press any key ...... where's the ANY KEY??
But why try to inovate a tried and tested formula, one that's fine as it is? Consoles and the way they are controlled has changed very little over the years, and for good reason. Mice are still the popular way of controlling a computer pointer and cars still have steering wheels.
