Hello everyone.

I am in need of some art work and sprites for my up coming game, I am in the very early stages of game design, working out level plans and fine turning the story line.

I am new to coding and this is my first project, its only fair that you know this as I want you to know your dealing with a newbie.

let me tell you abit about the game and what I need.

The story so far...

You play the role of Freddy Fungus a mushroom like alien from the plant shroom, on a routine fight Freddy's space craft develops problems and he crash lands on plant earth. In the crash a number of items were lost and damaged from his space craft, stranding him on earth.
Can you help freddy find the missing parts, fix the damaged ones and escape from earth before he is captured or even worse eaten.

Thats the story line, the game will be a platform / rpg type game.

The game will include the following features and characters :-

Power ups, < keeping what I have in mind a secret >

Many differnt levels based in different playing ares, for example town, jungle, etc dont want to give to much away at this point about the playing ares and levels.

Many other features which I have in mind, some might make it into the game some might not, again sorry for being a bit vague dont want to spoil the game play at this early point.

The main characters:-

Freddy Fungus.
A large mushroom like alien from the plant shroom.

left / right movement. climb up / down movement.
Spore attack < shooting >
Jump.

I have some ideas for early stage enemies but thats some thing I am working on alone side the story line.

Main ones are different types of snails and slugs.

******* So what I am going to need *******

At this early stage I need a basic freddy so I can start coding the movement, A snail and a slug enemy, and some basic platfrom tiles so I can test out the jumping, shooting etc.

Also this gives me time to help fine tune how I want the game to look and feel, this could be a long term project and i really want to keep the same artistic style all the way though the game.

I want the game to have a cartoon feel to it, and want it to be very pleasing to on the eyes too.

so if you can help, are good at sprites or graphics maybe this would be a fun project for you.

thanks for reading such a long post.

This is constructive criticism, but I'm concerned you might not have the skills neccessary to require the help of any experienced artists. Generally artists, especially good ones, invest a great deal of time in a project. Knowing that you haven't completed a full project yet could scare off many people who like the game's idea. It's always best to give some example of work completed, and in most cases it is best to make your first games with library graphics, or even rough graphical depictions of characters. That way you can give some example of what is needed, and it will give some insurance to the artist that the project will be completed. You have an idea, but a real vision is needed to get quality help. People need to believe in you and the project at hand.

Now, as I'm not one leave a new game designer discouraged; I'll see what I can whip up for some basic characters and backdrops. This will at least get you going in the right direction. Go ahead and send me an email to like_thats_just_your_opinion_man at hotmail dot com and give me some tips on what you want. I was planning on doing a clean colorful vector design.

All in all, the plan sounds good. You have a direction, but in the future be sure you have a full vision to really reap the benefits of voluteered help.
