Hello, it's me again, this time with a finished product. I've fine tuned the application and upon Phizzy's requed added a small library of texts.

The keyboard typing test is an application to practise typing on the keyboard for fun (or maybe even in a school environment! Who knows?) It measures the time and mistakes when you're retyping a text and based on that calculates a grade and displays some statistics. So you can practice typing by hunting your own results. The text for testing is fully customisable, and there's a plenty of them in the included library. (thanks goes to Phizzy for the suggestion!) You can change the harshness of the grading algorithm and even save the results in a file for later bra... viewing.

There's even an anti-cheating mechanism in place, so no, you can't copy-paste the whole text into the typing field during the testing and think that the application will buy it.

The file is a self-extracting rar archive:

If you find any bugs, or have any suggestions, reply here or shoot me a mail.

This is quite nice, very proffesional looking. It's missing some features of most Typing tutors though, such as highlighting the letters you have already typed, an on-screen keyboard and others. But as an application to see ones skill in typing its very well done, Good work!

I made a Typing application awhile back now, if you want to checkit out to get a few ideas, the download is probably down so if you want it just PM me and i'll e-mail it to you.

Thanks a lot on your suggestions! When I first started to code this I wanted to make a typing test to measure skill, not quite a tutor, but it ended up like one. Yup, I know that it lacks highlighting the letters, but I think I made up that one with text trimming, which clears the characters you've already typed.

I personally think the 1024 character limit is a really big misadvantage. I'll get on that right now.

By the way, because I'm using system boxes which CAN change colors, and solid black text strings, I'm afraid that the application looks totally messed up in high-contrast schemes. Should I replace all strings with background system boxes?

This is pretty decent - I think that some simpler tests wouldn't harm it, though. And if you put a Dvorak course on there you'd be absolutely heroic.

Yes, I've heard for the Dvorak layout, but could you please elaborate? How should I put a Dvorak course in there?

By the way, I've finished the new version, literally a bunch of tweaks and corrections. I wanted to submit it, but I will delay the submission because David has made a suggestion.

Don't delay it just on my account

I meant a series of lessons that start a user off on the home row and gradually expand outwards. I still have nightmares about endless lines of "asdf asdf jkl; jkl;" in school (though the layout I suggested is rather different).

Better still, you could put the lessons into external files and allow the user to import their own into the library.

Actually, I had in mind for the version 0.2 to add some tutor elements, because the app in it's current form is just a skill test for practice, without tutoring. For example, the app would actually record all mistakes you make and show you the most frequent ones.

I've added your suggestion to the todo list. Now let's release it already.

(Will I get a feature? )
