Ok, I have an RM computer I bought from a carboot on sunday but I'm having a bit of trouble finding out what I need to do to get it from P1 200mhz to a at least P2 300mhz.
It's for my younger brother it is and I'm abit clueless about getting a new motherboard. I'll post a pic of the computer sometime inside and out.

Maybe one of you could help me out in getting a motherboard that should work in it and the main thing, fit in it.

I doubt you could buy a new motherboard that supports such old hardware.

But i guess going to school or college or university (wherever you go) and asking around for spare parts or info may help you here.

Upgrading from P1 to P2? What's the point? That's like buying a box to live in and 'upgrading' it by attaching another box to the side. No one wants to live in a box.

I made a Skt 754 Sempron 3000+ PC for a friend for less than £200. I used the mouse, keyboard, monitor, CD-ROM and case from the old system, you could too. The motherboard had onboard LAN, sound and video for £50. The CPU was £50/60. A nice big 80gb IDE HDD for £40. PSU for £20. 512mb value RAM for £40. And extra £25 would've got a DVD-R drive if required. I used www.scan.co.uk. You can make a great PC for peanuts if you know where to look. Obviously it won't be running any games later than Quake 2 or doing any hi-def video editing, but it works, and far better than some shitty P2 system (which, as Andy says, you won't be able to buy components for anyway).

If you're making a system, do your brother a favour and at least get some components for him which will be able to run software which was made this century. It's a false economy to try and upgrade such an old system.

You could probably pick up a complete 1ghz system off ebay for like £50. That's better than buying ancient components.

Have you got a link?
Is it in the uk?

Pentium 1 isn't that bad and I've seen components on ebay for it but one thing i'm wondering.
From which pentium is it possible to use SDRAM?
I think this one uses SIMM 72pin memory.

Old computers are fun, and you could keep it, but you will at least need a 1Ghz+ system these days. Especially for the better Click games.

I think it's the motherboard that determines whether you can use SDRAM or not.

Older processors won't allow sdram, the mother board supports sdram because it mentions it in the bios and it supports usb but theres no usb cards inside.

Anyone know how much a 1GHz p1 costs?
and would I have to upgrade the PSU and Motherboard.

I think I might of kill the midi for it aswell but I'm sure there is a loose cable.

(Excuse me of my poor spelling today, I just don't feel well at all Today.)

Just recently I've been feeling very unwell since my monitor for the main 700Mhz started going black is red and it got brighter red but now I switched to my old olivetti monitor and I don't feel tired or have headaches so I think that had something to do with it so off to the tip with it.

The monitor did seem to overheat often though, I think it did anyway.
