Is there a more efficient way to make one, than to make the frame area reaaaally long and make it always scroll, or to have a huuuge active picture as the background that slowly moves upwards?

You could use a background system object for the backdrop, and create any additional objects past the bottom of the frame in sequence so that they scroll on to it.

I've found that the best idea is to make the frame really long, but use BSB for the background and either some sort of script or spawning objects to keep the actives outside the visible field to a minimum.

If you're considering MMF2, you could use layers, but I don't know if your talking about MMF2 or MMF 1.5.
