Today I found myself purchasing 3 more studio Ghibli films, making my small collection grow. I also purchased one cheaply the other day, as music zone don't do money refunds (sods) so I had to find a film I wanted to watch for £10 lol.
So far I have:
Nausiccaa -of the valley of the wind- (some interesting parts but I won't watch it again for a while, I don't feel it had the detail alot of the others have)
The cat returns- (ok but a bit boring)
Laputa -castle in the sky- (haven't watched yet)
Grave Of The Fireflies (I haven't watched this yet but I hear its good, I also picked it up for only £7 from HMV, double disc )
My Neighbour Totoro- (Its childish but theres something nice about it, perhaps the attention to detail)
Princess Mononoke- (I actually couldn't watch this all the way through, some parts just seemed to drag for me)
Howl's Moving Castle (I love this, probably on the same scaled as spirited away for me)
Spirited Away (the most commercialised but I like the world in which it is set n_n)
I want to try Pom Poko but I saw a video on youtube and the racoons had balls, Im not sure if they were edited in or if its really sick animal porn, can anyone confirm this?

Kiki's delivery service appeals to me also, but Ive heard that its more "cutesy" than exciting.
I remember watching Totoro on Sky Movies like a decade ago. They had a final showing at 6am one morning that my dad was supposed to tape, haha. Bad luck me. I went for years imagining I'd never see it again. Caroline got me the DVD for Christmas a bit ago, chuffed off my face
last one I saw was Howls Moving Castle whilst I was looking after my aunts place. couldn't have been more magical, it started snowing so I stuck the fire on full. Beautiful film! I never want them films to end Spirited Away, Howls, Totoro, Mononoke... 2 more that I've forgotten!
Just well written, magical, age-less films. Disney with class and dignity [braces self].
I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan, but I melt (in an entirely masculine way) every time my wife and I watch Tonari No Totoro (I can remember the Japanese title, aren't I pretentious.) Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away are amazing too.
After a quick Google search, it appears that the balls in Pom Poko are not only originally there but are central to the plot of the film.
Lol that's so wrong Perhap's thats how they turn into humans? Hmmm. Actually, although I didn't majorly love The Cat Returns, there was a bit that made me laugh hard, with a pervy ninja cat sat at a table looking very shadey.
Pom Poko is... odd. I watched the entire movie in Japanese. Weird stuff, yo. The raccoons turn into humans, yeah, but their power (from what I remember) is contained in the groin area. MESSED UP MOVIE. Funny at some points. But MESSED UP.
However, one Ghibli movie is not only an amazing movie, but my all-time favorite movie EVER.
Whisper of the Heart.
I really don't know why, I just love this movie. Sure the ending is a tad rushed and, well, rather awkward, but it's a fantastic movie that must be watched.
On that note, I didn't really care for Kiki's Delivery Service. It just... wasn't as good as his other work.
I may have liked it if I watched it all/payed attention to it.
All i saw was a big fat baby and a really ugly old woman for the most part, so that probably put me off.
