I want to make a game, however I can't sprite, I can however trace! But I don't want to hop around in front of my camera 8 different times making a bunch of goofy poses, so I want you to do it!
I want to make a fighting game, where players can choose from one of eight characters and duke it out in an interactive environment! The characters are essentially identical, except for their special attacks, so in order to do noticable damage to fill their special meters, players have to improvise with the environment from the mundane, (rocks, clubs, pipes) to the huge, (tanks, mechs, giant monsters) and the just plain bizarre (Rube Goldberg devices, lawyers, guitars) in order to dole out as much damage without getting their hands messy...
However I don't wanna do all the poses. I will hand draw all the backgrounds, so all you need to do is get a camera and do the following:
Make sure all parts of you are distinguished, like nothing blended into the background.
Make the following poses:
Standing(3 to 4 frames)
Punching
Kicking
Jumping
Ducking
Blocking
Getting Hit(Upper Body and Lower Body)
Three Special Attacks
Victory Pose
Loss Pose
Here's the kicker, go nuts with it. Whatever you do, you get to make your character. Dance around in a cow suit, act like a caveman, or just be yourself, do whatever. Name the character and post a link to the video in a downloadable format. (no YouTube)
I understand this is my first project, so some may be a bit apprehensive, but come on, what do you have to lose? And you will be creditted.
So whattya say? Wanna help an aspiring game creator get off his feet?
Rotoscoping is a wonderful technique (Flashback anyone?). But I have no free time to help, I can just wish you all the luck in the world with this. It takes time but the results can be phenomenal.
I'll do it once i get me quickcam software... i remember some other click fighting game that did this once. I think one of the early Mortal Kombat's did it too, though later ones had drawn sprites (at least in my memory, perhaps they didnt)
The first 3 MK's, all the sprites were based off of actual paintings of actors wearing the MK getup's. They had to hold those poses for HOURS ,I saw a video on it a long, long time ago, and the dude who was the model for Liu Kang in MK had to hold the jumping dash kick pose (FF+HK I can't remember what it was actually called) perfectly still while the artist calmly painted him. It was crazy.
