Hey everyone,
I'm looking for some software (preferably freeware) which I can use to make a backup of files on my system onto an external HDD. Basically I bought a 300GB external hard drive and I have photos on it already.
What I want to be able to do is run a program or click a button which will copy all the files from one folder from my pc's harddrive onto another folder on the external harddrive. However as it would be pointless and time consuming to overwrite all the photos, I only want my system to copy across the ones which are new (A differential backup.)
I don't want a program that archives or otherwise compresses the photos into a single file, as then I can't take my harddrive around and look at the individual photos.
I built an Automator script in OSX for this very reason. I'm still looking for a good XP version so I'll keep me beady eye on this thread, would have to be automatic. Runs at boot up or whatever.
How do you do that in Automator, I mean get the files already there and everything... Anyway, Vince's idea sounds fine , you could probably make something in MMF2...

Phizzy - True, but that's okay for things such as photos and music where they don't update. And as for my MMF2 files, I save them periodically with a new file name eg. App1.mfa, App2.mfa so they will be backed up aswell. But I'm happy to hear if you have another suggestion?

If you read the 3rd paragraph of my first post:
"I don't want a program that archives or otherwise compresses the photos into a single file, as then I can't take my harddrive around and look at the individual photos. "
