Hey guys, does anyone know if there's an extension (or another way) to regulate volumes for both MIDI / Synth and wave files during runtime? Say, at the start of the application? I wanted to see if there's a way to ensure that the voices and sound effects were always a bit louder than the background music.

I don't think there's a specific extenstion that deals with that, though you can always set the volumes to alterable values and play about with them that way ?

Don't change the Windows volume controls! It's annoying. In fact don't use MIDIs at all, they lag whenever a MIDI starts.

Somehow whenever I play Lyle in Cube Sector the music gets all loud even if it's low normally, which is why I thought it'd be possible.
Silvernova: Alt values for volume? How exactly? I could have it be in the options so that the player could determine the levels himself.
Phreddy: Yeah, I know MIDIs are quickly getting antiquated. The next game or two I make will most likely be mod form. I hated that pause at the start when I first started using MMF but fortunately it seems I've grown used to it so it's not so bad now.
Phizzy: We tried converting MIDIs to MP3 and wavs (and other types) and didn't really get anywhere using Cubase before. How would I convert a MIDI to module?
LIJI: I'll look into that too.
Thanks everybody, sorry to be a pain in the ass here lately but you know how it is sometimes.

It's not so bad for YOU, but what about the players?
Again, don't mess with windows volume control, it's annoying.

Nuts, I can't download the volume object off the extension list because my work's server says it's forbidden
Oh c'mon, forbidden for something like that?!
Can anyone e-mail me the extension if they already have it please?
You can use: dxfgames@gmail.com
It sounds like it's the right object for the job I need.
Thanks!!

Nevermind, I just got it off of zoomergamer or some sort.
C'mon Phreddy, how bad could it be? (I will find out for myself later!)
Besides, if it turns out to be crap I don't have to use it. If nothing else, it's a new extension I've never tried out before.

Okay, I guess you're right. I was thinking of it being like a lot of games' volume slider in the options screen that works for the game, but then the volume reverts to normal when they exit it. If the extension doesn't work like this, it'd be no good to me.
Mods have to be external files right?

Yep, still am.
At least it would take care of the whole "music sounds different on every computer" problem that arises with MIDIs. I know I'll eventually graduate to mods one day.
Thanks Phizzy!

Modules do tend to get big when converted, and sometimes the timing is pretty off (and the pitch bends are always off), so keep this in account when converting.
I'd rather have you didn't regulate the sound at all so the user is free to do that. Of course it becomes a different matter when you have modules, since those and samples both work on Windows' wave channel.
