hahahaha
i want this book. does anybody have it as pdf/can find a torrent?

"The book was published during the early 1990s, when many foreign companies were creating branches in the USA and in addition, were purchasing American companies. This created much controversy in the American business world as well as xenophobic sentiment. Much of this anger was directed towards Japanese companies whom many Americans believed were silently invading the country."

i kind of think they deserved it. look at all american companies and shops that already invadet our countries and then wont stop with it.

I have that book, but it doesn't have that subtitle. As Wikipedia says, the book was re-published with many different subtitles. The one I have is called Game Over: Nintendo's Battle to Dominate Videogames. I guess he had a change of heart before writing the "Nintendo Enslaved Your Children" version!

It's quite interesting, but pretty outdated. It focuses a lot on the Hiroshi Yamauchi days (it was written in 1992) of Nintendo's stranglehold on toy shops and publishers, which doesn't reflect the Nintendo that's around today.

Nintendo's anti-violence, anti-sexual content, anti-mature content, ect stuff that turns them into such a kiddy organization EVEN TODAY, is due in no small part to them wanting to appear NOT to be silently pushing japanese cultural norms or tradition onto american children. In fact, they steered almost entirely clear of Japanese culture-based games, too, even if they were inoffensive. It was books like that and bad publicity that made the Nintendo heads paranoid about it, and they are just barely edging up, even into today. Nintendo was one of the worst companies to deal with censorship and such back in the day; they would actually censor violent content even if they KNEW it would lose them major sales, such as with Mortal Kombat and its "no-blood" on the SNES.

Basically, Nintendo's whole policy is based around countering this, so much to the point that even now, when theres not a american parent who could give a damn left or right if their children woke up speaking japanese, they still won't harbor any games they feel might give them impression of a subtle moral degradation.

that, and they treated their programmers like shit.

pretty much every video game company from the 80's to 90's and a little on treated their programmers like shit. Nintendo was particularly possessive.

I have that book, very well written, it focusses more on how nintendo started up until the n64 days. Love the interviews and the chapter about how tetris got on the original gameboy is a classic, its like you are reading a spy novel, great book
