Can you get anything to record the audio? Try just using a sound editor and check your audio recording settings, although you've probably done that already.

You have a Realtek audio driver/card? Those things suck and won't let you record anything happening on your PC (no "stereo mix"). <_<
Camtasia Studio is good if you don't mind 15fps and even lower for recording your games and such.
However if you use Vista, Fraps is capable of recording your desktop now, and with direct sound. If you don't have Vista though, Fraps will only record DirectX games.
On my laptop, I use a male-to-male cable for audio in and out to record sound "through line in". On my desktop PC, Record Sound through Speakers works wonders in Camstudio.
CamStudio is great, but you'll have to mess with the FPS settings a bunch to make it look any good. Check the "record audio from speakers" box to get it to record your video's sound. Also, if your game's frame is say, 320 x 200, you'll want to make the screen capture box start from 0,0 to 320,0 to 320,200 in the upper-left hand corner.
And lastly, yeah some computers won't record audio with it and I don't know why that is. (Even XP ones)

Because it uses Stereo Mix for that, and some sound cards don't have Stereo Mix. Which is really annoying and weird.
