Hey guys, I figure sometime this year I'm going to be getting MMF2 so I was wondering if anyone's had any ill side-effects from importing your existing MMF1.5 .cca game to work with MMF2?
Also, what types of sound files can you embed into MMF? Is it midi, wav, ogg, and mp3?
I'm really hoping for mp3 files if it's possible.
And in your opinions, what are the biggest advantages and disadvantages of MM2 over MMF1.5?
Sorry for all the questions, answer if you'd like to.

You can embed ANY file into MMF2... not just sound files!
Although the sound object can't play Mp3s as far as i'm aware. But there are numerous programs to convert Mp3s to Oggs. Audacity is what I use.

Wow, that's awesome I didn't know that (about the any file thing).
So can you somehow embed an .ini file to use for a save game? Or a big array? Or maybe that isn't practical, now that I think of it.

No. You can't write to an .exe file, you can only read data from it. If you put an array in it you wouldn't be able to edit it unless you then save it on the users computer.
Save an .ini in an .exe wouldn't be practical as they're designed to be edited by the user if needed!

This is sort of relevant to the topic: I have a zip file embedded in the exe. How would I extract that zip into a specified folder?

I've imported a rather large project from MMF 1.5 to MMF 2 before, and for the MOST part it worked. But I guess there were some things it handled a bit differently...
For example, there were a lot of animation bugs. In MMF 1.5 (and before), I'd always make it a habit of using "restore default animation" to get an object back to "stopped" (as forcing the animation to stopped would often freeze it), but in MMF 2 THAT command seemed to be the one to cause bugs, and forcing the animation the way to go.
I also came across some strange calculation bug (I don't remember exactly what my calculation was, so I don't know which part acted differently) that flung all of my objects against the left wall whenever they'd move the slightest bit left.
So you might experience a side-effect or two, or you might not.
But it's a bit of a difficult problem fixing 'em if you do; what do you look for when all of your code was once perfectly sound?

Oh no Fifth, that sucks and is what I was dreading!
I guess if I do get it, I'll have backups aplenty and hope for the best. Thanks everyone.
