So I've just ordered a new laptop with the following specs:
Processor: INTEL® Core 2 Duo T8300 (2 X 2.40GHz)
Ram: 4GB
Graphics: 512MB GEFORCE 8600GT
Can anyone recommend some decent PC games that I've missed out on, or that are coming out soon?
I don't mind the genre, but if there is a demo then that'd be even better.
Although I do prefer it if there isn't a monthly subscription in order to play it.
Basically just download Steam and you can buy and download all of the above (and more).
I can't really think of any other decent PC games that arn't on Steam..

Steam is a good idea, there are plenty of good games on there . Anything made with the source engine is pretty fun.
I've pre-ordered Spore, and I plan to get the creature creator when my laptop comes.
I'm also hoping Diablo 3 will be released some time this year. http://eu.blizzard.com/diablo3
It looks sexy, and I've always been a big fan of Diablo 1 and 2 (although my friend lost my discs for D2)
How much are games through Steam? Are they normal price (i.e shop price), or cheaper?
WRONG. Cancel your order and get a 486. Or just buy both and send me the good one. I need a decent computer. I enjoyed the Mechwarriors... Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 and 2 aren't processor-intensive but very addictive. (Wasn't so fond of the RCT3 demo.) Oh, and Balding Overweight Man. DAARG I hate Service Unavailable.
EDIT: Whoops, misread that. So, get a 486 and then you can afford a gaming device.
The Orange Box is worth getting, just order it through Steam like everyone's suggested. Crysis is pretty fun, but once you complete it it doesn't have much replay value.
Laptops are generally terrible for gaming, regardless of the specifications. They may look particularly impressive on paper, but actual performance will differ greatly from the likes of a Desktop. I'd expect the battery life to be minimal at best, and heat to be excessive.
The Orange Box is one of the best buys for PC to date, but if you're into RTS games, I personally love Supreme Commander. I don't know if you're looking for just brand new games or just good games in general, but nothing can beat classics like Starcraft, RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, and Pocket Tanks.
So yea just go on Steam and buy a lot. I've got the id, Epic, Rockstar, Orange Box collections and probably didn't spend too much compared to how much they would be in shops. I got to see how poor UT3 is for just £30!
They have some really good weekend deals too. A few months back Prey was £2.50.
To all those who tell me to get something else: sod you in your eye flaps. I got what I wanted for practical reasons, and I couldn't care less about what you think I should've gotten instead, all I want from you is names of games people, NAMES OF GAMES!
I shall have a look at Steam and see whats what on there.
