Ok, I plan to make a new action platformer game. But I really have no idea where to begin. I decided this time I should use my own sprites, but I should use already existing sprites as a guide (to know how to make like, a character walking, for example) but I have no idea where to begin.

Any ideas?

Yes, visit pixel art sites to see how other people do it, take tutorials and post your work on forums for feedback.. pretty much common sense.
