For the sequel to this game:
http://www.create-games.com/download.asp?id=7274

As you can see... the interface is damn ugly. I don't need a sprite artist, just someone to creatively think about where things should go.

Also, I'm expecting a lot more buttons and resources in Chaos Wave 2 and a lot more has to be displayed, like number of swords, armor, light red, dark red, etc. So, there has to be a way of doing that too.

Thanks for any help

Hmm.. not bad. I think it's the borders that really do the trick. I think I might do it a bit differently than in CW1, though, with a much more compact interface to fit in new stuff. Thanks, though, I'll give you some credit for that

I just had this crazily obvious idea that I could replace the word "blue" with some blue symbol, like most RTSes do.

I think having a combo graphic / text for stats and stuff is a great idea. I wouldn't have 2 graphics side by side though (ex. a picture of flames for fire resistance followed by a health bar). Double texts aren't bad though (Fire Resist: 42%) If you draw a single frame to get an idea of what you want you can always go back later and animate it to look better if you think it needs it.

I would agree that if you're going to have buttons you should create pictures or icons for them yourself and steer away from the squares and rectangles of Windows past.
