I cannot understand why they don't just show our version? We like watching American shows, we get them. Is it because a) Americans just don't/can't get our shows or b) the t.v. companies just think the American audience is dumb and is trying to tell them what they like?
If you are American, please don't take offence to this as i just don't understand! Imagine if we re-made Friends, the English way, instead of broadcasting your original shows. It would be stupid! Please, if you're American, comment and let me know
We've tried to do the Friends formula and it worked a little (Cold Feet) and broke (Coupling).
They (Hollywood?) make the humour much too obvious, maybe they don't like/get the precise subtleties?

The American sense of humour is very different from the British, that and the fact that they'd hate to show anything British on TV, being so patriotic.If they do, they usually do voice overs to give all the characters American accents, like when they changed some of the words in the Harry Potter books to suit the American audience. I'm shocked the Little Britain USA series have actually been allowed have a show there on HBO.
Lol, the entire world has a different sense of humor from the British. I don't laugh at 90% of british comedies.
Anyway, it's cheaper to remake shows. If people watch them, that is. With the wages Friends actors get, I could imagine that purchasing the series would be quite expensive.

We do get British shows. Or at least, we can. >_> (I have rabbit ears) I was at a friend's house and there was a minute-long ad about the BBC America channel. I was cracking up listening to them saying "the best of american british shows" or something to that effect. They had a giant American flag in the background with british show clips going across the screen. x)
Alot of Americans don't get british humor. That, and we love redoing things.

No, Australians are pretty much on the same wave length. A lot of Brits like Barry Humphries, for example.
