"I tried really hard and couldn't find a reason to open a Twitter account."
Same here. ... I guess it's for those narcissistic (did I spell that right?) enough to think people will care so much about what they had for lunch. Well, that and celebrities + fans, which is probably a bad idea if they are telling the truth about where and what they did each day (mainly because it would give Stalkers easy access to their daily schedule if they got too specific) ... alot of crazies out there, which is why Twitter is so popular in the first place I guess.
I heard them talking about Twitter on The Daily Show and wondered "wtf is twitter?" ... so I typed in twitter.com .. low and behold! .. more crap to gunk up the internet and bog it down so it runs slower.
What they really need is a good well-organised video tutorial site (for tutorials only) ... I'll look that up ...
Blood of the Ancient One, Seen only as Shadow, Faster than Lightning, Fierce as the Greatest Dragon, Nearly Invisible, Floating in a Dream, Entered through the Demon Door, Destroyer of Evil in a Realm with a Red Sky Scarred, Who could I be ?
You don't have to type out what you had for lunch, you can type anything you want. One of the biggest myths surrounding any kind of site like this, or blogs for that matter, is that they're somehow self-serving, that you have to have to have a high opinion of yourself to want to express thoughts, feelings etc to the world. We're supposedly game-makers on this site, so don't you think that that position is a little bit hypocritical? You know - if you've ever released a game and publicised it then it's not really much different to posting on Twitter.
Personally I think sites like Twitter are what the internet is about - non-discriminatory, freely shared sources of information and entertainment that anyone take part of. But, then again, what do I know?
@Boothman .. Please tell me you're being sarcastic ... lol ... did you even read the beginning of that blog you sent me to?
Twitter is just a glorified blogging community. And it's crap! .. that's my opinion and I stand by it.
I wish it had mentioned lunch instead of whatever that garbage was!
I'd rather waste my time in the forums than in blogs ... it's just my preference, but you go right ahead and head back to that blog. lmfao ... I nearly vomited when I saw that.
What's wrong with blogging communities? Aren't forums just another type of blogging community? Somebody types something, and then another person responds and then someone else does and before you know it you've got a discussion going on. Whole lot of discussing going on on these boards too. Well... not a whole lot.
Oh - and I wouldn't expect everyone to get the subtle humour of Tim Key. But it shows that you can do something more worthwhile than posting about the contents of your lunch; you can use it for whatever you want. "And it's crap!" - so everyone who ever says anything on Twitter is crap? Twitter is just a tool. Like you.
Twitter is like a lamer version of Facebook's thought thingy, just that it reaches more people. Only matters if you're M. Bison or something else with interesting thoughts.

i have 0 followers and follow 0 people on twitter.
i really dont care about what people i dont personally know are thinking at any given moment.
and for those i do personally know and care about i have facebook.
If I'm a tool for liking forums and disliking twitter, oh well. I still don't like twitter. It's still crap. A forum is still better than a blog in every way. And when they invented blogging, it was a step backwards.

Narcissistic? That's a pretty derogatory way to sum up a lot of people. The psychology is almost certainly the hope that people will want to read about one's everyday life, not narcissistic conceit. So much more likely to stem from the social insecurity all of us possess to a degree (if we're being honest). Twitter's successful because it glorifies the everyday, which gives its users a feelgood factor. Understandable, and mostly harmless.
