dont want to go search through the latest klikcast eps but am i rite in remembering franqois say something about a mac port? if so does anyone know if linux is on their mind as well? mac is a unix-like os as well as linux so doing both should be easy and would be beneficial to them. perhaps a question to ask during the next francois phone interview?
thats really the only reason i keep windows around nowadays. mmf and itunes pretty much. and itunes works fine under wine apparently. so its only a matter of time before mmf is the only reason i have windows.
i also love my visual studio but all the libraries i use are cross platform with the exception of windows sockets. which there are alternatives to.
thats debatable but not far fetched. i would probably be happy to stay with windows if mmf delivered 3d soon. but with all this java, hwa, and flash runtime going on, which i would think would take extensive rewriting/porting of code, that a mac/linux port would be cake.
and dont hate but gamemaker runs on linux under wine seemingly flawless. good reason to buy the full version and actually learn how to use that crap.
If I remember correctly, the Flash Runtime will come out this summer, and the Mac Runtime will come out at the end of this year. Both will most likely be a separate product (not free) or part of MMF2 Developer.
So that's just the runtime, not the actual development tool.
ok well now i want to go back and watch the klikcast cause i swear that it wasnt mac "runtime" it was a mac "port" of mmf. so it WOULD be the develepment tool.
and if its part of mmf2 dev then im good. java is free and hwa is free cause there is no licensing issues for clickteam to deal with that cost money. flash is the only thing that would be an add on that would cost money. cause they have to pay for certain licensing things as francois said. and yet ill probably buy it if its reasonably priced.
and edit: gamemaker is a little buggy on wine and games run like shit. tons of rendering and memory problems.
and construct doesnt run at all. because direct x version problems in wine. so no mmf or construct on linux which sucks. and gm is buggy and games run like crap.
I seem to recall something about a mac version as well. It was part of the list of things AFTER flash and Android, I think. I can't remember for sure though.
I think Doctah James is running MMF2 in WINE or VMware or one of those parallels programs on a Mac.
Waaaait, wooaaaah nelly are they doing an export to OSX feature or porting MMF2 to OSX? Either of those - wow. The Mac community is starved of these little free game. It's quite flipped- there are loads of free utilities but few free games, whereas on the PC there are loads of free games but fewer (decent quality at least) free utilities.
"...at the end of the year we will certainly work on a mac version"
now as to what he meant by that, runtime, or actual mmf version, i dont know. but i assume since he said unicode in the context that the ACTUAL mmf will be able to support different languages for marketing in other countries, that mac "version" also means the actual mmf tool to be ported to mac.
i was pretty sure dr james had windows xp along with his macs. bootcamp or otherwise. in any case mmf2 has trouble finding its directories in wine since its a virtual drive. C:/ is just a folder named C: that wine directs programs too, and apparently mmf has a problem with this. it installs fine but when you run it it thinks it wasnt installed properly. so i dont think its fixable.
