Does anyone know of a 2d game dev program that can make a mmo game?
(besides MMF and TGF.)

I am NOT looking for a drag and drop program that requires no coding.
I want to start getting into a easy coding language, and I had an idea that the first thing that I want to do is make a online avatar chat room of a sort.

I downloaded this thing called BYOND, but don't know if I should stay with it, or find a new one.
IMHO it doesn't seem that.. good?

www.BYOND.com

I would like the program to have a easy coding language if possible, I want to get some experiance in it before I go and try to learn a in depth language.

~thanks in advance guys!!

BYOND? I played some games made with that once. You know how everyone complains that all RPG Maker games suck and are the exact same thing? This is even more so. And it's choppy. And slow. I played a platformer made with it once. It sucked.

By the way, coding isn't a requirement for pro games. Pro games get made in MMF2. The distinguishment between languages and MMF2 is really only there because coding snobs don't know anything about it. If you're going to use code and don't want to use Lua or something, might as well jump into the pro stuff and use XNA (Which I believe is C#?) or DarkBasic or something.

Well I mean I want to try to learn real code.
At least just dabble with something.
Yeah, BYOND really isnt that good.
I want to try and make something though, like Lua, how would I start using that, what programs?

I looked into the Tourque, and it seems a little out of my league.
Im looking for a free program if possible that I can just start in, and find out what coding language I like, and which ones I don't.

Does any one else have any ideas/programs?

Your first hurdle will be learning a programming language, and your second (biggest) hurdle will be trying to master it enough to apply it to an MMO.
An MMO is already an ambitious first game in a coding language you don't know, in that you will have to develop a game and then adapt it for online play.

Just my thoughts!

Multimedia Fusion 2.

Seriously, it's got some good online capabilities, at least as good as you can get with C++. I'm as biased against MMF2 as I am with every other software, but online capabilities and easy GUI building make it a winner with MMOs.

I don't think it has to be said that making a MMO is one of the most difficult things you can ever hope to do. You might as well say you're trying to make a X-Com clone or a first person shooter

I don't think MMO is the hardest thing but it's a huge project for a first game in a new language though. But I agree MMF has decent online capabilities and the new OINC sounds like a big improvement though I've never personally made anything online.

Look into playerworlds or one of it's successors. There's light scripting, and the online part is already done for you.

I diddn't want to make a huge MMORPG or something, I just wanted to make an avatar chat room that you can walk around in.
No huge projects or anything.
I will look into Playerworlds thanks
