I love Rockstar, they are one of the finest game-houses in the world and rarely put a foot wrong. Even their crapper efforts have been better than alot of othere developers' best. And i love Max Payne, it's one of my favourite games of all time (even though graphically it has ages terribly)
But what the hell is the point of Max Payne 3? They've turned a classic gaming version of a film noir, complete with revolutionary gameplay styles (bullet-time, anyone?) and an engrossing storyline into another generic 3rd-person shooter based in South America! Is anyone else bored with South America already? The whole jungle/shanty town thing was well introduced in games like Far Cry, but now everyone is jumping on the band wagon and i'm starting to tire of it now.
Look at Max for goodness sake, it's not even "Max" anymore?!
What's the point of calling it Max Payne 3????????????????
Exactly, it might as well be! So why have they bothered calling it Max Payne 3 when it could easily have been a brand new game? It has really made my blue blood boil!!
I can't say I know of too many 3rd person shooter games that have been brandable as generic. In fact I've kind of always seen them as having more personality than a 1st person shooter. Yeah, 1st person shooter puts you in the body of who you're supposed to be playing as, but that usually ruins the story because once you play so many FPS, eventually you just start believing you're all the same guy who is called upon duty in thousands of situations all of which involve people trying to kill you.
I still haven't played the second game. I loved the first game, found a hack for unlimited bullet time (just about the only one that didn't add further hacks/cheats) and it was just brilliant. The story was good and really played out well. Was the second game any good? It looked more like an expansion pack to the original and I didn't like how it started off (cereally; the intro to the first game was one of the best PC gaming moments IMO. The monologue, the house and a great first level at the train station).
I hope this image is to throw us off and takes place in a dream or something.

No, all FPS have a severe lack of personality. Personality doesn't mean that the game is suddenly bad, so just because HL2 follows the same unfortunate path, doesn't mean anythings wrong with it. It's just a flaw in the FPS genre.
For me personality in a game comes from the characters, which is why (IMO) Valve FPS games have such overwhelming personality. Well especially in TF2 and L4D.
I heard that it was still very much Max Payne 3. Just fatter. And with a hobo beard. Still film noir. Don't judge a game from the screenshots.
Nothing wrong with South America.. it's just a setting. It's obviously something designed to please the upper ups, though, "The big thing is South America! We want this one to be there too!!" Darn marketing people.

Yeah i've calmed down a little now, though i still think it on't be as good as the settings in Max 1. I'm sure the game will be awesome - it's Rockstar afterall - and i would imagine it'll all fall into place once the storyline reveals itself in-game.
It's just the beardo-version of Bruce Willis that makes my blood boil. That and the fact that South America is getting boring
The Max Payne series are all about the almost depressing noir film like ambiance, the new setting just doesn't fit at all. The sun, palm trees and beaches were easily the things I would expect the least in a Max Payne game.
