I'm curious because Ive been experimenting with Modplug tracker for months now. Yet, I know of few others that make music. If you want to link to an example track in this thread that would be great too.

I've made a few. Maybe 6 songs each about 2 minutes long. http://drop.io/wcfecyj (the last one Crystaline isn't mine)

I wish I could! Then I could make the whole game by my self. But I do enjoy being surprised by what a musician creates for my games.

I don't make music for games but I make electro music to listen to sometimes. I use FL Studio 9 and a bunch of VSTs.

Not so much anymore, but I've made music for games in the past. I used Fast Tracker 2 back in the day and more recently Milkytracker. ModPlug Tracker is still good though.

I tried and failed
The only kind I've had any success with, is the dark, ambient kind, without much actual melody - like in the orignal X-Com games if anyone remembers that...

I don't think it really matters though. If you use ripped graphics they'll be instantly recognizeable, and won't match with the rest of the game. It's much easier to find some piece of obscure music that works well. Plus, it's easier to find a musician than an artist - I guess because making artwork for an entire game is quite a big undertaking, whereas you might only need one or two music tracks.

I'm using Reason which is pretty OK, I've been doing music for a while but never really made a smash hit

If you want to listen to what I've made, my latest song can be found here: http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/search/songs/?query=dj%20tuborg

I also made the music for CRAZY MOOSE

I still can't find a decent programme to make non-MIDI music in. That's not because there aren't any, but because I can't understand any of them. Opening ModTracker to me is like opening up Microsoft Excel, and when I have suceeded in putting notes down, I don't know how to make decent instruments with it. I couldn't fathom creating an entire song in it. Ditto with most other programmes I've tried, I can sometimes put notes down and play them back but I can't figure out how to use instruments that aren't the standard MIDI ones, which kind of defeats the object.

Come to think of it, I might download that again, it never worked on my old computer (piracy problems).

Oh by the way, I've been writing some songs for guitar, one of which is uploaded at http://www.plunder.com/Alien-demo-download-1063b71221.htm - forgive my less-than-perfect voice, I record these songs as soon as I write them so I don't forget, so I haven't had much practice at it. Still, you get the jist.

Well, hey Matt I use modplug tracker and just use samples instead of messing about with instruments.
I found a really good Megadrive Soundfont which I actually had to use Fruityloops to rip samples from lol.
