Hello!

MMF's Flash exporter (or Flash itself, I don't know) doesn't support MIDI music. I have a bunch of old MIDIs that I wrote and I'd like to include them in my games somehow. I'll have to convert the MIDI songs to ogg but at the same time I'd also like to take advantage of the fact that it's not a MIDI file anymore. In other words, I want to beef up the sound quality with soundfonts or something. I'm not very clued up on MIDI software (I use Cakewalk Express!) but I'd like to know how to download and add soundfonts, or improve the sound quality in any other way. Does anyone have any recommendations?

iTunes has always worked for me! Though I don't know if that's beefed up enough for what you need.

I can convert MIDI to wav/mp3/whatever no problem. I'd like to know how to make it not sound like a MIDI song.

I think Modplug Tracker can open midi files but I haven't tried it recently and I remember the timing being a little off.

Well iTunes does use a different sound font. But I guess you've tried it.

Fruity Loops might be able to do something like that, but you won't be able to save your progress with the demo, but you can export your work to mp3 or w/e

EDIT: Just thrown in a MIDI into FL, it actually puts the entire midi into a channel, which can be a soundfont player, so you can load one, or make yourself

Thanks A. Lino That sounds like it'll do the trick.

OMC: I'll try that too. I didn't know that iTunes uses a different soundfont. Update: Er, it sounds the same to me?

A very easy way would be downloading Synthfont:
http://www.synthfont.com

You can just set soundfonts/VSTi's to the tracks of your midi.

A good place to get soundfonts is:
http://soundfonts.homemusician.net

There is a link in his video's description to a pretty damn decent SEGA Megadrive/Genesis soundfont.

and yes Modplug tracker can open Midis and Soundfonts. It didn't always want to work with soundfonts when i played around with it though.

Excellent, thanks a lot for this. I spent a little while playing around with Synthfont last night, but didn't have time to explore it completely. I'll check it out more later.

Fruity Loops seems good but I was quite lost in it's custom GUI and daunted by the wall of buttons it presented me with. I had trouble with the drum tracks on some of my songs (track 10), meaning that they didn't fully convert to the new set of instruments when I applied the soundfont (sometimes only cymbals, sometimes missing
bass drum, etc)

Thanks for this, too. The Megadrive soundfont is good but not what I'm looking for right now.
