That's really cool. I find it interesting since in the Netherlands this wouldn't be necessary. There are ugly people on the news all the time being asked for opinions.
In the UK the media seems focused on "plastic assisted" women with low IQ's. Common front page headlines are usually along the lines of "Celebrity X Drinks a Cup of Tea in fashionable shoes". Note: I do not buy this kind of newspaper but adverts for such "great" stories are usually on the TV.
I am seriously becoming disillusioned with the UK, being able to think here is a liability.
I was going to make a joke and say there wouldn't be many people to interview in America if news reporters avoided "ugly" people, but that one's getting a bit tired.
There are attractive people and not so attractive people alike on the news here. We're in the same boat with the worthless news though. I can't understand why tabloids are still in business! And then I look around the Wal-mart that I'm standing in in the middle of the midwest US, and I remember... because people actually buy that stuff.
Though I've yet to witness it.
I wonder if you guys have anything like Entertainment Tonight or Extra or Access Hollywood. Watching that is like pulling my fingernails out and dipping my fingers in lemon juice!

I've noticed some channels show these American shows, and I have the same reaction. I don't get it. I have so many things going on in my own life - how could I possibly be interested in someone getting a boob job or marrying someone or whatever, just because they're famous?
I'm also an administrator on a Danish chat site (I think the average age is like 14-15) where I, among other things, approve the pictures people upload. In this it's obvious how the media affects these kids. I often see pictures of 15 year old girls pushing their "boobs" into the camera lens in order to appear attractive...oooh how I cringe :S I'd be so embarrassed if I was their parents
I seriously think Western society is going backwards, most english girls I have met have been horrible (drink, smoke, swear etc) and the ones that are nice are always taken. I do have a GF that I met as an undergrad at Uni, but she is not English .
I sometimes read the papers but generally avoid TV and magazines. I do see girls in shops buying those glossy mags, surely there is more to their lifes than reading about some new handbag some rich idiot that could not care less about the public has just brought.

English girls are a real mix and quite confusing. You have the chavettes/ladettes, who smoke, get pissed and swear, then one up from that the tarty girls who over do it on fake tan and makeup, then the girls with more than an ounce of intelligence. Most of my female friends are quite nice to talk to/intelligent. It's the British males I can't stand.
Having said that, I thought the UK was the only place with these girls until I saw some in Switzerland last year. I believe Australia also has them. Nowadays I never really single countries out as they all have their oddities.
@Adam: out of all the people from primary school as far as I know I am the only one to get a degree (on 3rd one now). I dont mix with the alleged "normal" peer group of my own age - I am a boring fart. I dont drink or go clubbing etc, I would much rather do some design, play snooker, play games, program something (I can code C, C++ and VHDL its my hobby as well as my profession), build something out of lego technic, go for a drive, go for a walk, paint the fence...
People born after about 88 I generally find irritating (there is exceptions of course), and my chinese friends say the same the same about their younger generations. Other thing that puzzles me with english girls and the younger english generation is their obsession with Facebook. They publicise their whole lives on there and I fail to see why people need a 3rd party to communicate with their alleged "friends". I have also seen people walk all the way home staring into their mobiles too, never ceases to amuse.
I think that because the kind of people being talked about in the later posts here are the kind of people who want attention, we see them a lot and they take a lot of focus. I just think that all the other people (I guess you could call them "us") don't want that sort of attention so we don't notice them so much. I'm sure that are at least as many of "us" as there are of "them"
Kids have access to so much more these days than i did 20-odd years ago. No wonder their are caked in make-up/staring into phones/reading Face-ache-book, etc. But that's just the way it is! I remember people used to say all us kids ever did was play on our Mega Drives/SNES's when we were kids whilst they used to be climbing trees and playing in fields when they were younger and they just didn't get why we were glued to our Street Fighter 2's!
I guess we're now becoming them and the kids seem alien to us now!
As for that news-dude, i think he's great! I hope he annoys the reporters for many years to come!
I think that guy has it totally backwards - the beautiful people are the ones being treated unfairly in the media.
How many times do you see the cheerleaders (and jocks too for that matter) being portayed in TV and movies as dumb/bitchy/hateful etc, while the fat and ugly people always have such a great personality? Some of the loveliest people I've ever known have been cheerleaders.
And you'll notice that those trashy magazines are always just pointing out every flaw they can find in the beautiful people (eg. putting on weight, wearing the wrong clothes, etc), and never have anything positive to say.
If any other demographic were being discrimated against in this way, there'd be outrage, but I guess the beautiful people are just too busy being happy and beautiful to care.
@Sketchy: I guess the media and mass public have treated people like Jordan (and Victoria Beckham) that badly that they now have millions. I feel so sorry for them, getting free publicity (they usually have some form of product on sale) for the sake of an odd bit of criticism about their fashion sense/appearence . Sorry Sketchy but I do not feel sorry for them at all. They wanted/got that type of life, as far as I am concerned that is the price they pay (privacy and constant appraisals by the press).
There was some studies about fat people and progression in work in the papers some time ago (maybe bull). Slightly less or similar skilled/IQ/effort giving colleagues that had normal bodies got promotions over the fat guy.
On another note I have only ever met two beutiful but extremely smart girls. One was at school, she looked like a young Felicity Kendal, and we did the year 9 higher level sats together - only 2 in the school to do them. The other is my GF she beat me on my degree (She came first and got a prize, and I came second - make jokes about that if you wish ).
I personally think stupidity is equally distributed across all body types, but to be honest I do meet a lot of beutiful "but is there anyone home" type people, like a girl some time ago that needed a calculator to work out 10% discount on 15 pounds.
