Hello all--

I'm seeking submissions for a skill-shooter shmup
that features ever-increasing difficulty and customizable ship upgrades. This is a perfect opportunity for a just-beginning artist who wants to test their mettle with a small project that will be released as a Flash app, so anyone in the world can see their work. Plus, there's some pay in it for you as well.

WHAT I'M SEEKING:
I would require a sample of the work you would like to have in the final project. The sample would include:

1 enemy ship
1 player ship
1 asteroid/space rock
1 upgrade icon, either "ship speed increase", "ship bullet range increase", or "ship health increase"
1 explosion

The above assets would be about 20% of what I would require from you in the final project.

I'm looking to see YOUR style of artwork. I'm not seeking anything in particular at this point.

The ships listed above may be scaled to be larger or smaller, depending on the stage of the game the player finds themselves. This will be factored into the decision-making process.

All submissions must be submitted as a source file readable by MMF2 Standard; I think anything from TGF and up can be read. No extensions are permitted in the source file (I'm just looking for art assets anyway, not coding, but I just wanted to put that out there).

WHAT YOU RECEIVE:
Credit in the game, $25 US (paid via PayPal or some other domestic means, depending on where you are, once all assets are received), and access to the file as a stand-alone EXE or a Flash app. The game will be released on the Internet, so plenty of people will be able to play it.

Please send me a PM with info regarding your submission, and a download link if available.

Thanks for reading!

Still seeking submissions, folks. It's an excellent small project; you'll be paid actual money when you complete it; people all over the world will see your work.

LAST CALL!

Anyone wishing to submit a sample of their work and be considered for the final project must send me a link to their submissions by Friday, 14th January 2011, 10pm GMT.

Turnaround will be quick; I've finished the engine of the game and am ready to plug things in.

Just to clarify, I'm looking for the first submission (the five sample items listed above), not the entire project, by the end of this week.

Dogzer, please stop spamming this thread. Either post a submission or move on.

I was all ready to offer my services, and then the 20-event comp came along...
Sorry, but it's just bad timing for me

Not a problem, Sketchy. Your 360-degree shooting engine will show up in the game, at least.

And in all seriousness, if things work out I'll definitely be doing the same kind of project in the future.

Since people have asked a few questions about the assets, here are a few more clarifications about the request:

The game perspective is a "top-down" or birds-eye-view shoot-em-up.

Colour depth is 16 million colours. Please do not use alpha channels.

Although the size is not too terribly important at the outset, and it's very likely I'll be scaling your results if necessary, here's an approximate size listing for the submissions packet:

1 enemy ship: size 32x32
1 player ship: size 50x50
1 asteroid/space rock: size 60x60
1 upgrade icon, either "ship speed increase", "ship bullet range increase", or "ship health increase": size 70x70
1 explosion: size 70x70

There's still time to make some submissions, folks! Do your best.

You act like you're actually doing people a favor for offering them $25 for hours of work.

Can you post the engine .exe or something? I definitely wouldn't want to see my sprites in some half-assed project/pessimist.

Thanks for your input, Gamester. If you don't want to contribute, you don't have to. And I agree that $25 isn't a lot to many people, but as I'm not rich but I've made the promise to pay everyone that completes the full order, I'm not able to pay more than that. It's that simple.

People know the price of their services up front; if they end up spending hours on it, that's their decision. Ultimately, the effort needed to finish the order is left to the artist, and it's only the necessity of a complete project I'm concerned about. If $25 isn't enough for soemone someone, then obviously this project won't be of interest to them.

And no, I'm not going to post the engine. The people who are selected for the project will see the engine if they wish, and will definitely see their work in it. I will tell you it is a simple space shoot-em-up that stands on its own as a decent arcade-style minigame, but serves the community best as a showcase for other peoples' art efforts (hahaha...$25 worth of effort, right?). When the game is released (most likely mid-February) everyone will have a chance to play it and see what the artists have produced.

Fair enough.

Unfortunately I am not skilled enough to contribute. I can do graphics, but only sometimes (ie: 1/100000000 drawings turn out decent) and I can't animate at all. . . lol.

Unless you consider an over-dithered piece of crap that looks like a burnt potato chip with mental and social issues to be useful.

If you want it you can have it. I would have spent more time, but I'm at work and its time to go.
