Hello guys.
The last couple of years I've really struggled to keep at it game wise. I don't seem to have the patience I had when I was young and using Klik 'n' Play (I'm 26 now). I've been kind of sad that I haven't made any real effort game making wise, and my Base Invaders project (http://create-games.com/project.asp?id=1901) is the biggest effort I've ever been able to manage (considering all the planning and work I've put into it) for years and even that has been dropped in transit like a poorly handled UPS package.
I've decided that (from reading about how other people do their games etc.) that the best route to take is to start -extremely- small. Thus I've began working on a new tiny game using TGF2 New Grounds Edition and ended up with a problem.
I'm trying to create a game where animals appear on the right side of the screen and fall down. Then the player has to move a paddle so the animals hit it and keep bouncing until the leave the left side of the screen. I've assigned a pinball movement to the animals, and made it so their initial direction is left. Things work fine when the paddle is moving left or idle, but if I move the paddle right while hitting an animal the animal bounces to the right instead of left. I guess physics-wise it's correct, but I want them to to only bounce left.
Could the problem (I've no access to TGF2 and the game here, I'm just thinking off the top of my head) be that the paddle has a built in movement on it also (I think it's 8dir movement with only left/right possibility)?
Do you think it would work better if I made a custom movement for the paddle?
Do you have any other advise maybe? So...yeah...I'm done now
Do you want the animals to bounce the same height every time, lower every time, or higher every time? Also - do you want the horizontal speed to vary at all?
Thank you all for your input, but I seem to have gotten it exactly the way I wanted. I did it by making a standard custom movement for the paddle, and have the animals use the built in pinball movement, without fine collision detection.
Yeah, so now for some reason it's not working anymore and the animals are bouncing back and forth. I'm gonna have to do things a 100% with custom movement.. oh well
