Title asks it all. Most .GAM files are now at least 10+ years old and obsolete, so unprotecting them can do no harm, riiight? Will Clickteam ever release an app to crack .GAM files? What are the chances of them unprotecting a .GAM I send? If that fails, does anyone know how to crack .GAM files?

Thanks in advance.

If the original creators of the .gam wanted people to edit their games, they wouldn't have protected them in the first place.

But more to the point, why not ask your question to Clickteam personal on their site?

They used to be able to, but no longer can if memory serves. The app they had to do it was conveniently lost, absolving them of the burden of "can you unprotect my gam file" requests.

And that's probably a good thing, but a pity if you lost your source.

Isn't there some documentation on the .GAM file format and the protected variant which might allow you to write your own unprotector?

It used to be really easy to crack protected .gam files. You literally just had to open it in a hex editor and change one value. But in later editions of TGF Clickteam added a checksum and some extra crunching to make it much harder.. and then lost their own TGF unprotector program. So basically you're in luck if you used TGF 1.0 but kind of screwed if you used 1.06.

At least one hacker has broken the protection, but haven't released the tools to unprotect games to prevent people from opening others games.

That's a shame, I have a number of games I made as a kid that I can no longer access because I was stupid and locked them

Same here. I thought "protect application" stopped people cheating in your game. I didn't know it locked the source code.
