It's simple, because it makes the guys focus on their boobs rather than actually fighting them.

Typically when an RPG has an inventory, it's the amount of squares or 'space' in a back pack. (Wow, you get more packs to fit more items.) However few games actually have weapons and items of different sizes like Priston Tale or Planetside did. Then some games like Oblivion have a weight limit instead of a space limit.

You're right though, neither of these fully explain where the items go, they just vaguely give you an idea.

Diablo is a weird case. When you die you drop your equipped items, and ressurect in town. So... someone strips you naked and carries you all the way to *insert closest town here* A person can be heavy to carry even without a set of armor but... You still have your non-equipped items with you. If you found a wounded person carrying an anvil wouldn't the sensible thing be to ditch the anvil, rather than taking his clothes off? Unless he took off your armor BEFORE deciding to carry you back to town.

The conclusion is, whenever you die in Diablo, a necrophile undress you, has his way with you, then feels guilty and drags you back to town for the local healer to resurrect you

I guess the difference between normal and hardcore mode is that in hardcore, the necrophiles don't feel guilty afterwards.

I figured most RPGs must be like the Disc World games, where you have some kind of storage with legs that follows you around, instead of the characters actually carrying items themselves.

Riviera (GBA) has a pretty strange inventory system. You can carry loads of items around with you, but for some reason, your party is only allowed to take a total of 4 items into combat (incl. weapons). That would be a big problem, but bizarrely, characters can share items - so all 4 characters could make an attack with the same weapon, during the same turn (and in fact some characters *must* share weapons if you want to have other items available, such as healing herbs).

The thing that amazes me the most in rpgs is drinking potions during combat.
