Hi Everybody (Hi Dr Hagar!),

I have had a pretty neat idea for a multiplayer game, but it would have to be an online game.

What options do I have in this day and age? Last time I experimented with online extensions was in TGF1 with MOO2 and Direct Play. I hear a lot about lacewing, Moo Click, Moo Game (and their replacement OINC). What would people recommend? I would preferably have something that could be hosted on any PC, rather than relying on a dedicated server.

Thanks in advance.

Lacewing is pretty much OINCs replacement, and everyone seems to shout lacewing as soon as these questions come up.

I'm not versed in online extensions and the such, but wouldn't you have to have a dedicated server in order to host a lobby, unless you only want direct connections via IP or something of the sort?

Not sure if this means anything to you, but lacewing also works with Python.

Cheers Gamester .

By non dedicated I just mean the protocol has the option for anyone to host rather than being stuck to one server, i.e. some type of exe anyone can run to host a server (Moo2 had this I think) or the option for a peer to peer type network.

This game will be very complex, I do not wish to develop using old extensions or something that may just stop working at any point when servers out of my control go down.
