I am not sure who is responsible for this but this is the first GREAT Sonic game since Mega Drive. They really did a great job. Also I really like how classic Sonic looks. I just don't know why they even had to come up with "modern" Sonic. With his angry look and those green demon eyes he just creeps me out.
I tried the demo on the ps3 the other day and can honestly say I wasn't keen.
It looked really pretty (apart from the ugly title screen) but I found the background was way too detailed and destracting for me to establish what was happening in the foreground and focus on Sonic. I actually found the 3D mode/non side on alot easier to keep the flow going and keep moving.
But still, to this day my favourite current Sonic game is Sonic Colours.
I only played the first demo (Classic Green Hill) and it made me nauseous... I don't know why but a friend suggested it was due to unstable framerate.
Still, Sonic is one series where I prefer to be just nostalgic about the game I played as a kid, rather than trying to stay "up-to-date" with the series.
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -

well it really is new sonic that ruined it for me. i dont like his looks and his attitude. but the way i can - ARGH that zombie scared the hell out of me - but the way i can play as CLASSIC sonic and play a 2d platformer or as modern sonic and have a 3d game is pretty impressive. like you can play a level in both modes and enjoy both worlds. i really like that. like you can finally play the sonic you used to love again.
I really enjoyed both versions of the Green Hill Zone in the 360 demo, but I'm kind of with Adam, the backdrops really clashed with the main playing area and I often found it hard to differentiate.

I think that's exactly what I was trying to point out. Werewolf sonic and all that crap. I've to admit I found sonic colours to be pretty gay as well and don't get me wrong here. I was excited about it and even got it but personally it was yet another failed attempt. To me there are two people : the ones that are fine with modern sonic and miss the Mega drive days and the ones that love classic sonic.

And I'm one who loves the mega drive days.
My only real gripe, from what I've played of the classic green hill zone, is some parts of it still feel forced. That was one thing the Genesis version rarely seemed to do... was feel forced. For example, when you ride into the tunnels, the game seems to suddenly go into super fast mode and blast you through the tunnels, when in the Genesis, it was more of a slide that you got faster as you ride down.
Frankly though, I'm afraid to really nit pick the classic mode with a fine tooth comb, because I feel like Sega needs all the reassuring they can get, that Sonic Generations is more than a step in the right direction... it ALMOST makes up for the shit they tried to pull off the past decade or so and I hope they continue on this path, though from what I've heard, they wont. (Generations was a one time thing, supposedly.)
