If you want 8-bit style sound effects you really can't find a better tool than BFXR:

http://www.bfxr.net/

It can also be downloaded to your own machine as a stand-alone sound creation tool. I highly recommend it!

s-m-r's suggestion is the best I know of. It's really good. But, I honestly can't stand it. I've seen so many projects use sounds from this and it becomes obvious once you've heard it over and over again. I'd recommend paying someone to make original sound effects, or better yet, try and learn to create your own. Easier said than done though, I know.

BFXR is a great solution though.

Bfxr offends me with it's C64-ness. I need Adlib/Soundblaster sound.

Hahaha! Yeah, you guys are correct. There's only so much bleeping and beeping one can take. Fortunately, my tolerance is rather high for that sort of thing. Either that, or I don't play games enough to be sick of them.

If you guys are looking for something a bit more realistic, I reckon you'll need to pay some cash. BFXR is a free tool, which is another reason I like it as much as I do. But maybe you can start a search on eBay for "sound effect collection CD" or something like that, and find some affordable sounds.

Good luck.

I would use normal sounds but they are slightly too high-def.
