Hello!
Thought I'd try to create a devlog in the forums. Both to motivate me to finish my game and up the activity in the forums a little bit.
Hope you don't mind.
My game is about rolling a snowball down a hill and it gets larger as you progress. You have to avoid objects larger than yourself while you can roll over smaller objects to gain size.
When you've grown so much your snowball takes up the entire screen, I was thinking the screen would zoom out. We'll see what happens
I also realize this game has been made before. Probably lots of times.
I can alter this snowball to any size I want, if anyones interested I can post how I did it when I get back from work tonight.
More updates to come!
So this is how I created the snowball (perhaps not so interesting, but I like these types of behind the scenes technical things, when you get to see how things work):
1. Paint BG white and draw a shadow
2. Draw a white circle over the shadow
3. Add outline
4. Flood fill with transparent color
It's a Surface Object, so all you have to do when you want the snowball in a different size is to alter the size of the ellipses drawn. That way you can resize your snowball without loosing any quality.
Next step is to add a good looking track in the snow after the snowball.
The purpose of those spots popping out from the track is to make it look like snow that gets pushed to the sides. It looks much better in the smaller sizes, so this does not really work. I'll have to work some more on it, just wanted to show what I've got so far!
Since the snowball is static (it only moves from left to right) I had to create tracks that shoots out from the snowball. I tried with launching an active object from the snowball, but it quickly added up to 256 objects on screen! So instead I used the Surface Object. Again.
It paints circles of varied sizes depending on the size of the snowball, then scrolls the surface down to make it "move".
I love that freakin' object
