Okay, so this is not a competition as such, but an idea for a cooperative TDC community game.

We start with something really basic, like a non-scrolling frame, just containing one player-controlled character with a custom 8-directional movement.
The first person has 24 hours to modify it - adding new enemies, weapons, powerups, mechanics or anything else that they want. Then they re-upload the modified file, and the next person gets 24 hours to make their own additions, and then the next, and so on...

A few general guidelines:
- contributors may add any content (obviously nothing offensive/illegal),
- they should not remove existing content,
- they should change existing content as little as possible (some changes may be needed in order to make new content work).

If the graphics were limited (maybe to something like ZX Spectrum quality?), then even with many people adding their own content, a reasonably consistent visual style could easily be maintained.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
Would anyone be interested in taking part?

I love that idea. I can't promise I could work on it on any given day but otherwise count me in!

I haven't completely thought it through, but I don't think you'd need to commit to a specific day. I think once somebody has uploaded their version, then whenever somebody is ready to have a go (it doesn't have to be straight away), they can post on the forum to say that they're starting, and then they get 24 hours from the time of their post - while everyone else waits their turn.

The only tricky bit is if somebody posts to say that they're starting, but then doesn't upload their modified version with 24 hours.
I think in that case, their late submission would be accepted only if nobody else had already posted to say that they're starting (after the 24 hours elapsed).

btw: Does 24 hours seem like a good amount of time? Participants wouldn't be limited to only have one turn.

24 hours would work I think. Now we just need more people...

Heck, I'm down for it. It sounds fun!

I assume it would be Fusion 2.5? Would there be compatibility issues if someone was using the 2.5+ add-on?

Well, I personally don't have the DLC, and I think it best to stick to the normal Fusion 2.5, to ensure that anyone who wants to take part can do so.
I'm not sure, but my understanding is that a user with the DLC add-on can save a game file, and as long as they didn't use any of the DLC-only features in it, then users without the DLC add-on will still be able to open it.

I think it's also reasonable to exclude the use of any commercial or developer-only extensions or shaders.
We'd have to agree beforehand that either it must be compatible with all the major runtimes (which would rule out all shaders and many extensions), or that it must be compatible with at least the HWA Windows runtime (which would rule out certain other extensions).
In general, probably the fewer extensions used the better.

Must be compatible with HTML 5 runtime.
