Hey, when I turned my PC on this morning my Geforce 2 graphics card's fan started buzzing oddly, and hasn't stopped since. It's not a loud buzz but it's loud enough to be annoying. I've taken it out but I can't see any obstructions or anything. It's not too much of a problem as i'm replacing it at christmas, but just wondering if anyones had the same sort of problem.

Also, anyone know where to get RD-RAM cheaply? Its the only one my motherboard takes and its pretty expensive, and at the local computer fair they don't sell it.

EDIT: Getting quite worried now. It's buzzing quietly to itself for about 30 seconds, then every so often it makes a huge buzz then goes quiet for about 10 seconds. Repeat process

Try oiling the fan. If that does not help then get a new fan.

That happened along time ago to my Geforce 1 card...so now it has an oversized cpu cooler that's placed on the heatsink using 2 rubberbands and 2 screws from a cabinet....it's worked like a charm for 2 years now

I've got a Geforce 2 mx 400 and it's had no problems at all.

A buzzing noise almost always means the ball bearing is broken (when nothing gets in the way of the fan of course).

This is most seen on small fans and cheap fans. Cheap fans tend to have balls out of plastic in stead of eg. metal. Plastic balls will eventually break apart/go out of shape/whatever as they are not really corrosion resistant (the mechanical parts rub against each other).

As long as the fan spins theres really no problem ... other than the noise. A new fan is really what you need, but as they are often build into the cooling plate, you need a new cooling solution. They can be bougth in many online shops, and a local geek store may also help you.

As you will soon get a new gfx card ... simply live with the noise a few weeks more.

Cybermaze, cheap fans usually have a sleeve bearing, and thats the problem here.

dust and dust from the brushes (unless its brushles)gets in the sleeve and it buggers up.

True, thats a problem too ... but removing the dust do not always work ... that is ... the ball bearing is not working ...

my pc makes a load noise like that when i turn it on and i think its the graphics card (geforce fx 5600)

a couple of gentle taps on the case shuts it up though.
