Use the 'Centre window position' action in the Storyboard object (chesspiece).

have it set to 0,0 on ( "player" ) or if you want side scrolling, only set it to X ( "player" )
Mr Icekirby says so!

that means the center of the screen will be postioned at 0 pixels on the X-axis from the player and 0 pixels on the Y-axis from the player.
center window position at (X,Y) from (any object here) can be substituted with "center window position at (0,0) from player."

Make sure your frame for the level is larger than the window of the game.

Yes, use Always. If you were using the Start of Frame, the window would only center once (at the start of the frame).

When you think about it, when you're Always - Scrolling - By setting the center of the screen to a certain point, it's going to work better than just at Start of Frame - Scroll - By setting the center of the screen to a certain point.
