the old scandisk could have a go at reapiring damaged files but it was not particulary good.

Can the new scandisk do this?

Once a harddrive starts corrupting, back up what you can like crazy. Once they they start they deteriate faster and faster (exponetially).

Do you have "System Restore", it comes with recent versions of windows, in all programs >> accesories >> system tools >> system restore. With it you can restore your computer to an earlier point, it doesn't affect any of your saved files, but it solves some problems.

ive totally forgotten the address but after 9/11 some english data team went over to try and recover as many hard drives as possible. they're supposedly the best in the world...

but just go to a PC shop.
system restore wont fix half a hard drive its just good for getting back a few deleted files lol
good luck

You can pretty much recover anything if you are a pro. That can be good or bad, depending on the situation.

Damn you RIAA

Remember, when the government comes to seize your comp, the first thing they do is cut the power.

i figured out how to get some files working again by editing them in notepad, but sadly my .gam files are way too massive to correct, sadly they're the most irreplacable files i had.

if you download 2 times a file and both times are a bit corrupted in diferent positions, you could separate them several parts, say 10 parts.. and then try to re unite the parts only guessing wich of the 10 parts are not damaged.. you would more than 1 corrupted versions of the same file for this though. Oh, to separate a file in several parts you can use WinRar.
