I've been working on a game for about the last five hours. It was going great, until I compiled it and recieved that "edrt32.exe has screwed up" message, which happens occasionally, so I shut down MMF with the expectation that I could reopen it (or at worst, reboot) and all would be well.
Anyway, when I try to reopen the cca file, nothing happens. At all. Other files open fine, but this particular one doesn't. MMF doesn't even have the common courtesy to give me an error message.

The file seems intact; about the right size, but I guess it's somehow slightly corrupted, or something. Anyway, what I want to know is if this sort of thing has happened to anyone before, and if there's a known fix for it.

I saved it in MMF1.2, so I'm hoping MMF1.5 might be able to do it. Unfortunately the evil uni proxy won't give me FTP access, so I can't upload the file. If nobody has any ideas I'll http tunnel or something.

It's shaping up to be a great game, so I really, really want to recover it.

Okay, woah. MMF1.5 does fix it. I'm amazed. And extremely thankful. Hoorah MMF1.5.

Okay, no, it doesn't. Well, it opens it, but I can't do anything with the file. See, out of desperation I downloaded a crack for MMF 1.5 that doesn't really do anything, I think because I'm missing 1.5's version of cncrt32.exe.

I've deleted it now; I could probably get it to work by using files from the demo, but I don't want to do that because I'd probably end up using 1.5, and I've been very patiently waiting to spend my money on MMF2.

So, basically, if I get the crack to work, I'll be stuck using a pirated version of 1.5 (this wouldn't bother me for any other software, but I guess I'm Clickteam loyal) because you can't save in older formats. If I get someone else to open the file, I still won't be able to use it in 1.2. I could buy 1.5, but I'd rather sink money into MMF2, because I'm a poor student.

Long story short, I'm screwed. Drat.

Download and try the MMF 1.2 File Recovery Tool from http://www.clickteam.com/English/download_section.php?PID=14&SID=5&Sname=Main+Download. MMF 1.5 has this built-in which may be why it opened in that.

Congratulations, you've learnt the importance of backups.
Everyone has to learn it at some point, sadly usually the hard way.

"edrt32.exe has screwed up"

That's caused by the dll not loading correctly. I've had that happen when I load MMF twice, and both try loading the dll at the same time.

To get around this: Always pick a name for your project(and save it) right away. That way you'll only waste 15 seconds picking a name, and you'll know right away if it will save, or if you have to restart it.

Tiger: I always backup. The backup for this particular project was simply too old, you condescending prick.

Erik: That recovered most of the file, although I'll still have to redo some of it. Thanks.
