Right... i just got Doom 3 today installed it on my laptop, crap! Pentium 4 3.06ghz with 1024mb DDR ram all perfect for games but the shittin GFX dosnt like it. its a Geforce FX5600 256mb but i NEED to upgrade. its ok but hell I wont be playing anything but Doom 3 until Duke Nukem Forever comes out.
whats the most powerful graphics card i can buy for a laptop, no expense spared. i cant seem to find seperate laptop GFX cards anywhere
Are you sure you can install a new GFX card in your laptop??? Notebooks/laptops ... rarely ... if ever support changing GFX card as it is built-in (thats the expense of having a very small and portable computer).
im new to laptops but yea my mate took a peek inside and she said its upgradable. apparently the Geforce FX6700 is supposed to be top dog for laptops, as used by Alienware
Apart from the fact that there is no Nvidia card called GeForce FX6700? Perhaps you mean a GeForce FX Go5700? Such a card would hardly improve much over a GeForce FX Go5600 ... but it is of course the best board offered so far by Nvidia for portable computers.
Anyways ... I am not a laptop/notebook expert either ... perhaps if you told us what laptop you have we would have a change of helping you.
I have the same problem, I have a laptop witch I played doom 3 with. Its a geforce 4 go. Its not good enough! Still I have cleard the entire game with low qualety and the shaddow effect off - ruines the whole experiance.
I have been wanting to upgrade my laptop for half-life 2, but I asked dell and they said it wasnt possible for my computer. Ask the guys you bought it from.
sorry i always refer to the Geforce FX GO as just FX, tis much quicker that way. Ive been reading up and the 5700 (not the 6700 durr! silly me) is a huge step ahead of the 5600, especially in terms of textures which is what Doom 3 is.
anyways im thinking about scraping this whole laptop thing and im just gonna buy a Radeon 9800 or whatever for my desktop.
jon- usually i wouldnt upgrade for a game but if it enhances the game experience and i got the money; im game! besides god himself cannot tell u how much i love Doom :|
