Hey, I was wondering what i should do with my game. It is a top down shooter and you can pick up items in this game. Should I make it so you just need to colide with this object to pick it up or, just make it so you have to hit a button to pick it up?
Oh, and for the administrators, please don't lock this because I'll come back to it to ask more questions. Ok? Ok.
I think it would be safe to just have it so if you walk into an item it picks it up automatically (except if you don't need it IE health it should just leave it ).
Please research the current way to do directional shooting though , I have seen alot of games that do a bad job at this and it makes the game suck.
Also, try putting some effort into the AI, don't just use bouncy balls that look in your directional all of the time....
Also, try to stick to one perspective and genere.... Something that I think makes games look noobish is if on one frame they have a crappy platformer and then on another they got a space scene (that is badly drawn), and then on another they are in some kind of racecar enviroment, and on another it's a pong clone, and on another it's back to platform but the whole movement system has changed and the player is now 2 times bigger..... What im trying to say is try to stick to a platformer if you are doing a platformer, and an overhead shooter if your doing an overhead shooter. The exception to this is minigames, and special cases....... A good rule is that if it doesn't add to the gameplay and just serves to annoy the player then it should NOT be included. The main reason for this is becuase if people want to play a racecar game they will download a racecar game, if they want an overhead shooter they will download an overhead shooter.... Not everyone likes all types of games, and when the "other" games aren't done very well it really brings down the whole of the game. Basically, just avoid it!
Try to add some more gameplay elements then shoot and kill..... Keys, exploding barrels, rescue missions, planting bombs, doors....
I know it's hard but DO NOT USE THE IN-BUILT STRING OBJECT FOR ANY REASON WHAT SO EVER. It makes your game look like crap , it is expecially bad if used on the MENU! ARIAL DOES NOT ADD VISUALLY TO A GAME! If you need text, get an art package, or draw your own text by hand.... actually make it fit into the game...
DO NOT USE WINDOWS BUTTONS FOR A MENU EVEN IF YOU ARE DIEING AND SOMETHING IS PAINFULLY BITING YOU! Windows buttons suck, they look horrible, and you shouldn't use them PERIOD, if you need buttons use actives or atleast the Active System box...
Yeh, it help a lot. But i notice that you think that I make crap games. Those were my first games and now I do much better. I have not used buttons for a long time, and my AI,way better. Not just crappy bouncing ball. They actually have a mind. Well there zombies so I don't know about that. Don't worry, this game will rock.
Much better? Are you talking about Punch it? Come on man, a little objectivism. I've found better quality software in the toilet bowl after a long night.
Dude, jon, This game I'm making is good. Punchit I made when I was bored. And Jon, I'm trying to not be annoying anymore. If you think I'm so anoying then just shut up about it. So anyway, any more ideas for my game?
Look at my signature, notice it's only 8% compleat.
Anyway, would this be a good idea for my game? Should I make it so that if you do something wrong off the storyline then you get killed and have to start over. It would be unique and fun. You would have to combine your skills in gameplay and, a sence of what to do.
