the SNES was unsuprisingly titled the Super Famicom on japanese shores. if memory serves

Famicom > (short for family computer in japan) > NES

Super Famicom > (short for super family computer in japan) > SNES

FAMICON > short for Family Connection, due the fact that our groups four members are closely related (but with a loving nod to the NES, whose resolution we use for our games).
