Back Up and Running
News posted 27th February, 2004 by ShadowCaster
I've made a new payment, and DC is available now from a new, Windows 2003 server. Sorry it took all day to get up and running -- you have no idea how long it takes to download 200mb from an overseas FTP then upload it again!

There may be a few problems as there are a few differences between our old server and the new, and not just the OS it's running. So if you find any problems please email me.

Dont change your bookmarks! The domain will point to the new IP once our old payment runs out. Until then you will be redirected automatically when you use the create-games.com domain.

Enjoy,
~Mike

Windows 2003 is actually better than Windows 2000, obviously.:)

Linux can't run ASP, ASP is a Microsoft invention :P Actually I think there is limited ASP support for Linux (ChilliASP or something?), but it might not work for a site as big as this. The new servers are very cool - it seems to go much much faster now :D

Joy, I can't wait until suddenly ASP just stops working being the horrible 'technology' it is followed shortly by the server and then you wonder why you didn't save yourself a few fingernails and just go with Linux...

Some time ago (2 years ago, I think), I made an offer to host TDC for FREE on our Unix-based server. Unlimited space and bandwidth. FREE! No ads, no quid pro quo. But due to the MS server software addiction, they'd rather PAY for hosting. Their loss.

I use Linux for programming cos it has all the tools, but I dont like it for much other than that. And before someone says I'm using a dodgy distribution, let me say first that I've downloaded and installed 4 of 5 different distributions in the past to see which was the best as far as stability and functionality goes.

I say that all the Linux VS Windows stuff should be burnt and destroyed, never to be spoken of again. It's as bad as the console wars... they're both good at what they do, so pick yours and be done with it, don't try and 'convert' more to your OS. It's almost as bad as being a religious fanatic.

Posted by ShadowCaster 28th February, 2004

I'm not trying to convert people -- hell I use both. I've always said they're both good for different reasons.

That wasn't directed at you, Shad!
