The Community on Teletext
News posted 14th March, 2006 by Rikus

Our very own Admin Chris Street (Circy) did something really cool this week, he submited some information about our community and its games to a U.K Teletext page that can be accessed by most folks that tune into the tv-channel. The article mentioned a couple of games and our very own site. Way to go Chris to make more people aware of this great community and its games. Click below to watch the pages...

Just out of curiousity, what was on the ninth page?

Posted by Phredreeke 15th March, 2006

Teletext pornography? Now that I want to see No, not really...

Hello
I am American
What is a TELETEXT?
We live in a country that doesnt have a teletext.

Oh wait actually I am German and Germany's tv channels have got teletext.

Posted by Phredreeke 15th March, 2006

For the Americans, Teletext is a series of textbased pages transmitted on an unused portion of an analog tv signal, or alongside a digital tv signal. You enter a page number between 100-899 on your remote, and then the tv waits for the chosen page to be broadcast, and then it's shown. Depending on the amount of pages broadcast, speed varies.

News and tv listings are commonly found on teletext.

Uh... Isn't Teletext found all over the world? There was this pretty big advertisement and stuff at the time.

Posted by The Chris Street 15th March, 2006

Phredreeke: the 9th page was just an advert about Gamecentral appearing on Freeview.

Probably pornography...

The German version of Teletext have some risque chatline adverts in the 900 pages. It's pretty odd.

how do you know about German teletext anyways? you are british, aren't you? i found it very odd there was on teletext when i was in the usa- wikipedia told me they dont have any lol

Posted by DaVince 15th March, 2006

It's in the Netherlands too (Teletext porn), often on pages 800+ on the commercial channels. I think they could have used those pages for better purposes... But yeah, porn is popular.

those ascii chicks (is it even ascii- what do they use for graphics) just make me laugh.

and whats up with that ANGRY FACE on the teletext screencaptures? click games should be fun and not some ANGRY FACE

Posted by DaVince 16th March, 2006

What about it being the logo of that '4players' thing?

Posted by David Newton (DavidN) 16th March, 2006

I do live in Britain, but have family in Germany.

I don't think that Teletext is capable of anything even as sophisticated as ASCII - it can manage single- and double-height lettering, quarter-character size blocks, and that's about it.

Posted by The Chris Street 18th March, 2006

It can manage Turner The Worm though

Posted by X_Sheep 18th March, 2006

It's not a channel, it's something most TV channels offer.

Posted by DaVince 18th March, 2006

And what is G4, may I ask?

Posted by Knudde (Shab) 18th March, 2006

A crappy "Xtreme gaming" channel. They air a bunch of uninteresting crap that's 90% promotional, and then they also air the shows that they took from TechTV (I miss tech TV!), but their G4 counterparts are badly nuetered/spayed, beaten with a stick then put through a blender. G4 just needs to die.

You can tell it's run by suits instead of gamers. (Though the guy who started the network said he was a gamer; but he was actually a moron.)

It's like the shitty SpikeTV Video Game awards; except it never ends.

Telelext _is_ a channel on Digital, tho. I access it through Freeview channel 100.
