This time, the compo is more Newb Friendly, extremely noob friendly in fact.

Posted by Bibin 23rd June, 2006

Any theme for the compo? Or just any game?

Posted by Knudde (Shab) 23rd June, 2006

Theme will be announced once the compo starts to avoid giving anyone a head start.

Smeby's a good guy and he's been around a long time. Don't take 'im ^#@# serious when he sayd TDC still sucks.

Posted by CsaR 24th June, 2006

That's just cruel to start the compo in the middle of the soccer World Cup match Germany Vs Sweden. Go Sweden!!!

Posted by DaVince 24th June, 2006

43 minutes left... And then we're having dinner, damn

Posted by 24th June, 2006

CsaR, youre swedish too?
Too bad the swedish soccerteam sucks. =P

Posted by 24th June, 2006

I will so enter this competition!

And n00b friendly... can this be a platformer-contest? Perhaps with the default movement only? Who knows...

Posted by Kazuma 24th June, 2006

OH MAH GOD HE'S SYKICK!!!!

Posted by Greasy 24th June, 2006

GOD DAMN MMF CRASHED ARGHHHHHHHHH.

Posted by Mruqe 25th June, 2006

I love Adam's headphone guy game Great one.

Posted by Ski 25th June, 2006

Oh hi, thanks I liked your graphics alot

Posted by 25th June, 2006

Yeah, Adams game was great. It will probably win =(

Liked your game too, Mruqe, too bad it only had 3 levels. The limit was 5, wasnt it?

Posted by Ski 25th June, 2006

LOL OK

Joel theres no need to point that out again.

And I cant program, so It probably wont.

Posted by Greasy 25th June, 2006

Programming was all right. But then again I never looked at the source code. I hope mine wins!

Posted by Greasy 25th June, 2006

Mruge, how do I get past the first text part on your game.

Posted by Mruqe 26th June, 2006

Press 'X'? :/

Posted by Ski 26th June, 2006

lol, what on earth?

Posted by steve 26th June, 2006

"3. The game MUST use the Default Platform movement for the player character. Fixing the engine is allowed, but custom Platform movement is prohibited."

:| sounds... great

Posted by Mruqe 26th June, 2006

I've made my entry so it would highlight deflaut platform movement's main "features". Like sticking to the obstacles above you while jumping or hanging from platforms on whatever sticks out of the character.

I kind of like my game - the graphics and the general idea. But default movement makes it almost unplayable. I'm thinking about re-making it with a custom platform engine...

Posted by DaVince 26th June, 2006

Shut up, steve. This compo is to prove that games don't necessarily have to suck when they use default movement engines.

Posted by Ski 26th June, 2006

Im remaking mine right now. It uses PMO but hey, I cant program

The story/theme will also be different so more cutesy and less violence! yea -___-

Posted by Mruqe 26th June, 2006

DaVince - well... Adam's game works almost fine with the default platform movement. But that's the only one of all the entires. Mine is suffering greatly because of it. So does all the other compo games. So if you're right and the point of the compo was to prove that making a decent game with default movements is possible, then it didn't quite succeeded

Posted by Mruqe 26th June, 2006

It just stroke me that one of the judges is a member of CorbaSoft and so are you, Adam. But your game should win anyway so I won't make any fuss about that

Posted by Ski 26th June, 2006

yep I also dont get along well with saven so im sure he'll be a harsh little bitch.

Posted by Saven (CrobaSoft) 26th June, 2006

Pff, don't get along is putting it lightly. 0/100, bitch!

Posted by Ski 26th June, 2006

-.-

Posted by Mruqe 26th June, 2006

Hehe.

Posted by Greasy 26th June, 2006

Does anyone like mine?

Posted by 26th June, 2006

Heh, yeah i actually thought it was cool!

Posted by Greasy 26th June, 2006

Thanks, good to know. I worked very hard on it.

Posted by Greasy 26th June, 2006

Judges are working very hard?

Posted by _rydin 27th June, 2006

I feel like I got thoughoghly owned with my entree; everybody's was better. I think the best one was Mruqe's; genius use of the evil default platform movement.

Posted by Mruqe 27th June, 2006

:evil laugh:

Posted by steve 27th June, 2006

All games that use the default movement SUCK.

This is a fact proven for many, many years.
To make a competition revolving around defending the default system is verging on retarded.

It's also embarressing to the community if an outsider comes in to see what we are making; and there's people releasing mario clones with default platform movement.

Posted by Mruqe 27th June, 2006

As far as I agree with you on the generall suckness of the deflaut movement, I can't see why you're so upset. I don't really think the goal of this contest is to prove anything. This is for fun. And for fun only.

And yes, I'm embarresed on how my game sucks. Not only due to the movement engine. Also, my code is extreamly untidy in some parts (those were the parts added when I was short of time) and the levels are bugy. You can't die in the second and third level... But still - It's nothing compared to the horror of deflaut movement engine...

*sigh*

Posted by steve 27th June, 2006

Sorry, my last post was not supposed to be an attack on people doing the competition here.
Just frustrating that after all this time the default movement is considered "ok" for "full games"/Shareware etc (dragonmania is the latest).

It's fine for testing things by yourself but to upload to the world, something so badly engineered is beyond wrong.
Feels like we live in a world these days where we celebrate lazyness.

Posted by Ski 27th June, 2006

what on earth are you rabbiting on about, Mr? The whole idea of the competition was for people that couldnt program that well, and considering it was only a 24 hour competition I think we could afford to be lazy!

Posted by Knudde (Shab) 27th June, 2006

Judges will be getting their materials today; I didn't have Net access yesterday.

Posted by 27th June, 2006

Okay, so how long do you think it will take?

Posted by Knudde (Shab) 27th June, 2006

Well, to be truthful, this compo was a disaster. I'm thinking I'll just give custom tags to all who participated (even the ones who didn't follow the rules) cause in the end, we got 3 entries that qualified. People were offput by the theme; which I myself didn't get. I wasn't going for anything serious; anyone ever play GI Joe for the NES? Or Shatterhand? Or 50% of any other NES platformers. That's what I was trying to go for. The site going down right in the middle of everything didn't help either. So what I'm going to end up doing is having another compo soon (Probably this weekend.)

I'll still judge the games myself, but I'll save the judges for the next compo.

Posted by Saven (CrobaSoft) 27th June, 2006

Actualy, I'm already done judging the three games that qualified + one that didn't. I'll email my results to you, Shab.

Posted by Knudde (Shab) 27th June, 2006

Heh, damn you work fast.

Posted by _rydin 27th June, 2006

May I suggest doing this next comp on a friday-saturday instead of a saturday-sunday, Because I know that I have more energy on friday nights that saturday nights...

Posted by 27th June, 2006

Hope the next compo will have a better theme!

Posted by Ski 27th June, 2006

yeah, make it a cute theme and Ill be in my element

Posted by Mruqe 27th June, 2006

Cute is not a element. Fire, water, earth, air and vodka are.

Posted by DaVince 28th June, 2006

I want to do a 24hr compo entry, as long as the theme is a bit good. And allow custom movement

Posted by _rydin 28th June, 2006

Yeah, and maybe not restricted to platformers...

Posted by Ski 28th June, 2006

hehehe vodka.

Posted by Greasy 29th June, 2006

AH, I can't wait. I need to know the resultsssssssss

Posted by Greasy 29th June, 2006

SOrry I just realized I had two copies of the source code in my .zip for the download. I fixed it,

Posted by Greasy 1st July, 2006

So this just died? Nobody wins?

Posted by Greasy 3rd July, 2006

I would vote for Skydragon's if I was judging. It was the shit.

Posted by Mruqe 3rd July, 2006

Nah. He promissed he would put Lawrence Fishburn in his next game after Prask and then he used Samuel L. Jackson again
