Do you have what it takes?! Admin Applications!
News posted 3rd May, 2009 by Rikus
I don't know if anyone noticed but it looks like I am the only active admin at the moment that is updating the front page and is around, well we have muz hanging around here and there but that is not really doing the trick. And its not a really good way to manage a site. Soo here it is as promised! Once every blue moon we open up the door to our exclusive club of admins. A brand new admin page just waits for you to explore! We are looking for a new Admin to join our team, and with the new aracade coming up it is going to be a very exciting time for the site! The rules: You will have to have been have a member of this site longer then 1 year. Also, let me know why we should pick you to be the next admin. We are not looking for someone short term - if you are even thinking of applying then this should be for the long run, and you should be able to have enough free time to update the website every couple of days. You can send your application to my DC-mail.

The person who gets the job should also know that you will have 3 months to "Wow" yourself to your fellow admins and the sites visitors. If you stop the updates after a couple of weeks we can with no excuses remove your admin status, and we will start everything again. After the 3 months your name will be added to the front page and we will have another celebration on the front page. Until then, when you are ready dc-mail me, be detailed, wow me with your knowledge and experience and/or your ability to write a good application. Good luck! I will follow up with the winner, and the applications will close this time next week

did someone get kicked from admin status?

Posted by Jon Lambert 3rd May, 2009

I AM SO APPLYING!!!

Yes, Circy, Simon Colmer, and Liam all quit a while ago.

Posted by Dark Link 3rd May, 2009

*cries*

Posted by OMC 3rd May, 2009

Good luck to all the applicants!

Posted by Ski 3rd May, 2009

"Yes, Circy, Simon Colmer, and Liam all quit a while ago"

Nope, they were asked to give up their positions... yet god knows why, they were somewhat more active than some of the casual admins around here.

Posted by Otter 3rd May, 2009

Good luck to everyone

Posted by Rikus 3rd May, 2009

"yet god knows why, they were somewhat more active than some of the casual admins around here. "

Umm actually they were not, maybe at first but they got busy with other stuff sorry to say.

Posted by W3R3W00F 3rd May, 2009

I probably wouldn't make a good admin, that's what I think. But if you want me too I guess I could. :|

Good luck to all entries anyway!

Posted by Poobical 3rd May, 2009

Good luck to all! Shall be interesting to see who shall become a new admin!

Posted by Jon C-B 3rd May, 2009

So, will all the admins have to know how to code sites, or what are the requirements besides being here for more than a year?

Posted by Ski 3rd May, 2009

"Umm actually they were not, maybe at first but they got busy with other stuff sorry to say."

Liam and Simon Colmer were more active than Shab, yet you didnt ask him to give up his adminship?

Posted by weka 3rd May, 2009

Good luck to all those who apply.

Posted by Codemonkey 3rd May, 2009

<hypnosis>

Dear Rikus...

Posted by Demon Lizardman 3rd May, 2009

I may come here every day, but I'm too busy for this responsibility.

Posted by Chaoz (Tri-Life Gaming) 3rd May, 2009

I might send in an application, but then again, there's lotsa people that want this more than i do. Good luck guys! n_n

Posted by Cecilectomy 3rd May, 2009

"Liam and Simon Colmer were more active than Shab, yet you didnt ask him to give up his adminship?"

liam and simon havent been front page active since they first became admins. the both started off well then slowly dissapeared. circy quit. and shab is too awesome to be asked to step down anyway.

i dont remember any of them being asked to step down. it wasnt public. i do remember them not being admins any more though.

rikus/flava/clubby i suggest you actually make a online application form for peoples profiles that they can edit at any time (only visible to the user and the admins, not public). sending in dc mails everytime theres an admin opening can get redundant. and then you can just sift through the applications at any time. and make someone admin, need it be.

Posted by Ski 4th May, 2009

"and shab is too awesome to be asked to step down anyway."

Yeah, great defense there... Circy stepped down I dont see why Shab doesn't give another user the chance to have a go. I remember him desperatley wanting to be an admin on TIGsource, too. I never see him doing anything there, though.

Posted by Ricky 4th May, 2009

Are there limited slots for admins? I don't see why inactive ones need to step down otherwise.

Posted by Ski 4th May, 2009

They don't need to. It just pisses me off when an Admin goes off for months at a time then returns with the power to warn people, lock threads (or delete them), and such... then vanishes for another few months. People should only be given the admin power if they're consistant and are going to use it.

Posted by OMC 4th May, 2009

Maybe there should be a "retired admin" status. They still have some power but don't have to post news. Of course, you couldn't just let every admin who steps down be one, or you'd eventually have too many. They'd have to be active at least once every two weeks or something.

Oldmanclayton for Admin

I hope you apply, Clayton

Posted by -MacAdaM- 4th May, 2009

OMC would be cool.
I couldn't ever apply, .
I know i couldnt ever do anything like that.

Good luck to all though!

Posted by Muz 4th May, 2009

"Nope, they were asked to give up their positions... yet god knows why, they were somewhat more active than some of the casual admins around here."
> Lol, Adam, where did you get this stuff? I'll give you 1000 DC points if you come up with some evidence supporting this.

Posted by Ski 4th May, 2009

Yeah, great News posts, Muz ... oh wait, Rikus is making them all...

Also to back up my comment about Shab on TIGS

The only current Admins I see contributing to this site are Rikus, Clubsoft and Flava. Even then Clubsoft and Flava are coding, not posting news. It doesnt take much (considering you're around so much nowadays) to use initiative and help Rikus out with some news

"Oldmanclayton for Admin"
QFT

Posted by Silveraura 4th May, 2009

Too bad there's barely any news to report, Adam.

Posted by Ski 4th May, 2009

That's never stopped Rikus posting news about project updates and new games

Posted by alastair john jack 4th May, 2009

There's always news to report, people are frequently submitting things to this site

Posted by UrbanMonk 4th May, 2009

I could probably be an admin, but then again I'm not very well known around here.

And anyway I like OMC,but for some reason I couldn't see him applying. I hope I'm wrong about that.

Posted by Cecilectomy 4th May, 2009

it was a great defense wasnt it. im quite proud of it

Posted by Muz 4th May, 2009

Well, I'd post projects, but then someone will be complaining that I'm putting projects I like on the front page. Besides, Rikus handles all the new stuff like a tornado

Anyway, you guys should apply. New admins will find out the hidden TDC secrets. In exchange for being an enemy of the people as some people just love to pick on admins

I didn't think I'd get accepted when I did apply, but apparently Mike thought my application essay was so cool, he decided to hire 3 admins instead of the original 2. So, go ahead and apply.

Requirements are simply being active enough, like Rikus says, doing things that make TDC a better place. And having a lot of time on your hands.

Posted by Mr G 4th May, 2009

I would like to apply actually. I have been around this community since 2003 but registered last year though

I have had many admin positions in various gaming sites before but I guess it's up to them to decide. I may send a propasal later on

Posted by Ricky 4th May, 2009

I'd apply, but I'm not in the mood to "wow" anyone. Especially with semester exams coming up. Plus, I'm already adminning somewhere else

OldmanClayton for Admin!

Posted by Hayo 4th May, 2009

I'd apply if it was 2004. Now I don't even know who most of these people are.

Posted by Bricnic 4th May, 2009

Hayo that shouldn't even matter right? It's more about keeping the community going rather than necessarily getting along with or even knowing every person on the site. You've got the experience with the site that most of these relatively new people are lacking, and a solid base of successful games up your sleeve to boot. Maybe the fact that you replied means you are perhaps just a little bit interested- you can always just give it a shot, right?

Posted by Hayo 4th May, 2009

I think it just means I got a little disconnected in the last 2 years.

Posted by alastair john jack 4th May, 2009

I think most people don't really know each other here, so its all good

Posted by Radix 4th May, 2009

Hayo, apply. Then you can just ban everyone who signed up in the past four years.

Posted by Matthew Wiese 4th May, 2009

*gathers a mob of clickers*

"OMC! OMC! OMC for admin!"

*starts to chat OMC's name*

Posted by OMC 4th May, 2009

I could see Hayo as admin.

Posted by RedEnchilada 4th May, 2009

"You will have to have been have a member of this site longer then 1 year."

Darnit

Edit: Oh, hey, I think this was comment 42. There needs to be something related to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy here.

Whoa- I didn't know that.

Posted by OMC 4th May, 2009

Mr. G, did you have the same trouble I did? I couldn't sign up for the longest time because it gave me errors.

Posted by Marko 4th May, 2009

I second/third/fourth/eight-millionth OMC for admin - the guy is quality and only arseholes would dislike him!

Posted by W3R3W00F 4th May, 2009

OMC as Admin FTW!

Posted by Phredreeke 4th May, 2009

HAYO FOR ADMIN!

CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!

Posted by alastair john jack 4th May, 2009

Yay Hayo!

Posted by Knockturnal 4th May, 2009

"I second/third/fourth/eight-millionth OMC for admin - the guy is quality and only arseholes would dislike him!"

Like music (excluding hip-hop) in my ears.

OMC THIS PLACE NEEDS QUALITY ADMINS
GO OMC WE NEED CHANGE!

Posted by Marko 4th May, 2009

Hip hop does suck, OMC as admin would not!

Posted by Liquixcat 4th May, 2009

How could I not want to know the TDC secrets. I'm applying.

Posted by Ski 4th May, 2009

Actually, It would be nice if Hayo was admin. He's been here from the start, peaceful and damn good at making games.

I've always said it's nice if admins on TDC actually make good games.

Posted by OMC 4th May, 2009

Hayo deserves Adminship if he wants it, I'd say. Of course, since when does what I say matter?

Posted by Fanotherpg 4th May, 2009

I think that good game makers should make good games and not worry about such sites.
Comment edited by Fanotherpg on 5/5/2009

Posted by Marko 4th May, 2009

Goog? You mean "good"?? I don't think it matters if Admins make games as long as they are active enough, they can leave all that to us!

Posted by Mkingy 4th May, 2009

I think Hayo was the guy you thought always would become admin but never did. Well he was in my eyes at least..

Posted by Codemonkey 4th May, 2009

I wonder if there's an OldWomanClayton...

Posted by Jon Lambert 4th May, 2009

I applied yesterday.

Posted by AndyUK 4th May, 2009

The qualities required for making games and being a good admin are totally different.
Hayo rarely visits the site so i don't know why so many people want him to be an admin. I'd rather he had more time to be creative.

Posted by Ski 4th May, 2009

Uh... he rarely visits? What?...

The New Admin Is --connection lost--

Posted by Ski 5th May, 2009

About bloody time!

Posted by danjo 5th May, 2009

I hope clubby isnt involved at asking people to step down if they're not active. He should know what im talking about.

Posted by Muz 5th May, 2009

Hayo is a lurker. He lurks in the shadows, eyeing you with those angry eyes. He's always there, but you just never see him.

Posted by OMC 5th May, 2009

I almost posted something when there were 42 comments.

Posted by Fanotherpg 5th May, 2009

Yea Radon I mean good. And I agree with AndyUK, good clickers should spent time at making good games so they could promote and motivate community thanks to games.

Posted by alastair john jack 5th May, 2009

I don't think we should be too much emphasis on games.

Posted by Fanotherpg 5th May, 2009

Maybe not, but when I see that less and less games are being released and more and more people are in community I think WTF? It should also be higher and higher and it isn't.

Posted by Mr G 5th May, 2009

@OMC: I just didn't have anything to say back then

Posted by Hayo 5th May, 2009

Apart from the fact that I didn't visit that much over the last two years, I ran quite a few fake accounts here, like NationalLiberal and PeterD. Which rules me out totally.

Posted by Marko 5th May, 2009

Haha, love the admission to the fake accounts, Hayo.

As long as the admin facilitates a good site and encourages the community, they are better off spending their time doing this and attracting an extra 2-10 people and keeping them so they can submit games rather than spending their time contributing just 1 game, IMO

Posted by Ski 5th May, 2009

Right now I still think Hayo should be admin. I dont care about his fake accounts, 80% of the time they were amusing anyway, he's talented, peaceful and been around for a long time.

And yes, I do think it matters that admins have some skills to hand. Why should they deserve admin powers on a site based around creating games when they have little to show for what they have achieved in the first place?

When a person applies for a job they're usually asked about past experience.

CT admins and mods get to their positions by programming extensions and helping people with product-related problems, a great way of doing it in my opinion. And yeah I'll use them as an example, you very rarely see any fighting occuring on their forums.

Posted by OMC 5th May, 2009

Opinions on whether or not an admin needs to have game creating skills aside, I think Hayo would do a fine job and should be on the top of the list. BUT. Only if he wants to be.

Posted by Mkingy 5th May, 2009

I'd take either of them. No doubt they'd both do a sterling job to be honest, and if not we always have the trusty axe

Posted by Dynamite 5th May, 2009

Do we have to be a pro at game making to apply...like what skills do the new admins have to be?

Yeah the basic: Kind, caring, serious at times but what else.

Posted by Ricky 6th May, 2009

Basically we need a nerd version of Jesus

Posted by MBK 6th May, 2009

A nerd version of Jesus!? .. lol!!
Someone should make a game of that.

Hayo and OMC would both make fine Admins.

Posted by Rikus 6th May, 2009

ps. OMC you better write me!

Posted by Muz 6th May, 2009

"Do we have to be a pro at game making to apply...like what skills do the new admins have to be?"
Um.. writing? I think having free time and being active on TDC is really the most important thing. None of the admins know anything about making games anyway, those who make games tend to quit

Posted by Dr. James MD 6th May, 2009

The comments on this item are high-larious.

Posted by AndyUK 6th May, 2009

"Basically we need a nerd version of Jesus"

Yeah, but I didn't apply.

Posted by Del Duio 6th May, 2009

The solution is obvious: We clone Rikus and then the two of them will rule TDC with an iron fist!

First we need a hair from Rikus, and we shan't discriminate from which part of Rikus it came from either.

Posted by Fanotherpg 6th May, 2009

Maybe 2-3 admins will be chosen

Posted by Marko 7th May, 2009

On the flip-side, why shouldn't an admin be chosen if they don't post many games?? Rikus hardly ever posts games these days, yet he's a fantastic admin and easily the best and most frequent poster. I think we'll all agree this shows you don't need to be a great games contributer to be a great admin on TDC.

Posted by OMC 7th May, 2009

Yes, game creation skills and admin skills can be separate. They go hand in hand sometimes, but in the end I think the only real qualification you need (other than the obvious things like good grammar and a level head) is to have a passion for whatever subject the site you are adminning is based around.

Posted by Marko 7th May, 2009

I agree with that OMC..... all qualities you have in bucket-loads!!

Posted by Bibin 7th May, 2009

A passion, yes, but some degree of skill should be expected of an admin, as this is a clicking site. (not saying OMC doesn't have this, I'm just speaking in general).

Posted by OMC 7th May, 2009

If you have a passion for it and are even considerable as a prospective admin you likely have some clicking skills. It's not something you want to completely ignore, of course.

Thanks, Mister Radon, you're too kind.

If someone wants to be an admin on a forum they can do it anywhere. I say if someone wants to be an admin here, have the passion for creating games and have some game making skills somewhere along the line.
