Competition: Judging Criteria
News posted 7th June, 2002 by ShadowCaster
I've had about 100 requests for this in the last week alone, so I've finally uploaded the Judging Criteria to the competition homepage! :) Note that this is only a general guide, and some parts may be altered, without notice, before the competition deadline. So if you are looking for a guide on how the games will be rated, head over to the competition homepage and check out the details :)

I don't understand... so, if your game is for more mature audiences, do you lose points for "unwanted elements" or something? This seems to be incentive NOT to produce games with content that might be artistically enjoyable to older viewers. I personally had a tiny idea planned to include certain "bonuses" with the omake in my possible compo entry, but this might jeopardize that... also, music only 5 pts? Do you have a clue how long it takes to compose music/sounds for a game or what?! OK, enough with the griping. All and all, seems good to give judges criteria to score points upon, but might give judges leeway to go "harsh" and shave a point or two off each category to create a score which might otherwise look pretty biased in a totally subjective 100pts system, other than that, looking great so far. :)

The Music and Sound section doesnt require you to create your own music and sound effects. Read the description below it :)

Commenting your code is one of the first things you learn when you take a course in Software Development. That way, if you leave your game and come back to it in a couple of months, you'll know exactly what your code is doing. Likewise, if you distribute your code, anyone who views it will be able to intepret what is going on. Thus, it is going to help the judges when we mark the efficiency of your code, and if Clickteam distribute it, anyone will be able to view it and tell how and why you did what you did. ~Mike
