Christmas Termination
Posted 2nd Jan 09, by Marko
Due to a lack of interest on my part i have decided to cease work on Terminator 3: The Arcade Game. Actually, that is a big hairy lie - i have been busying away on this bad-boy bit-by-bit (disrupted slightly by FarCry 2 that i received for Christmas!) over the latter part of 2008.

Using many photographs taken of the T-800 model i received through the post, i put together some walking animation. Carefully moving the model bit by bit, many frames of animation were photographed and care was taken in lighting the model. However when i pieced it all together and cleaned each picture up i realised how awful it was; 'stop-go' animation does not work unless you're using plasticine models! The movement appeared clunky and clumsy, think Goro from Mortal Kombat 1 done by Stevie Wonder!

The whole thing was scrapped, slowing me down considerably as i started again. The second attempt was much, much better, with more animation frames and considerably smoother movement. I'm looking forward to showing this off when it finally all comes together!

Below is a still from one of the new frames of animation, complete with some initial shading and lighting effects on the eyes. Hope you like!

"I'll be back!"

Can't wait to see how it plays.

That may just be the coolest thing ever...

To my knowledge, "The Neverhood" is the only other stop-motion game anyone's made.

Personally, I love stop-motion, and all those ancient monster/sci-fi movies - somehow they just looks more "real".

CG is overrated and overused nowadays, and usually looks like crap (not always - I've got to admit CG in LotR movies does look good).
