so yeah, by popular demand i added the time factor into the game, adding incentive to have the player kept alive as the days the player stays alive are tallyed. i also added a little clock in the attic bedroom that tells you the exact time, AM and PM. also, an black overlay will change its transparancy based on the time, starting at a transparancy of 8 (yeah it gets pretty dark) and goes all the way up to 128, one point every 6 game minutes (each minute is 2 and a half seconds). there are also lights that kick on at 8PM and cut off at 8AM, but they dont look to great, any advice on how to do them?
i also added a radio to the game, im planning on doing a grand theft auto style radio system so the player can choose which genre of music they'd like to listen to, as well as having some talk radio and news stations that will update the player to the "zombie crisis" and change each day, so ill be in the market for some voice actors for the talk as well as djs for the radio stations, but thats not for a long time.
im planning on making the zombies able to break down the doors, indroduce the sleep concept, and add some new attacks and weapons for the player, but sadly that all comes down to getting the animations done. i managed to finish a climbing animation, which works well for the coding part, but the 4 frame animation looks terrible. i also need to make it so the player can actually die, but im putting it off because i dont want any interruptions with the
testing. of cource i could just put a never on the scripts or trap it in a group.
there is a big problem with the zombies locating system. its similar to the problem i had with the headshots, each target wants to group together so zombies are always facing the same goal, which usually ends up being the first step. it shouldnt be too hard to figure out, but if it becomes a problem ill have to post on the forums again.
@green - lol! metal about farms and ford trucks! jk, i know what you mean.
@jim - hmm.. ill play around with it. i got an idea on how the lights would work last night, so ill give it a shot. im confused, what colors should i use?
I think Brandon used a red subtraction active that overlaps everything else, and as night sets in the transparency value of it (which you need HWA for) fades out. At least I think I remember him saying something like that, if memory serves
Danm, you stole my music idea. Actually I found out about the radio thing on Youtube (since I dont have the game) and thought it was pretty good. I'm making a customizable music player, where the person can add their own songs and playlists to listen while playing my game.
You should add a level editor. It's not that hard. I just submitted a tutorial in the download section. Its also on The Home Page!
@jims - that sounds awesome! im gonna have a field day messing with this. what exactly is HWA?
@sumo - the music player is basically a bunch of radio stations, i might add the custom radio station aswell, but it all depends on if i feel the in game radio stations are adequate. as far a level editor is concerned though, naah. i want to focus on making this level as detailed as possible, and have the player more focused on what they do around the house.
F**k me this looks amazing! Really wasn't convinced until i watched the vid and heard about what you're planning (or did i mean 'read' what you're planning?!)
sounds good! ive been careful to get stuff down pretty good though, i hate seeing bugs, and my game has its fair share of them. ill smash them eventually.
i downloaded HWA, but my game doesnt seem to work in it. ill have to mess around with it a bit more and see if i can get it to work. new projects work, but for some reason this one doesnt like to. does anyone know the current version?
I'd get stabbed cause I'd reply, "time for you to get a watch" .... ... don't mind me, I'm just reading up on your project a little ... seeing what I missed.
