Yeah that's cool but it's also done in Flash where you can easily do those rotations and movements of objects. If you could pull something like that off with this project though, that would be a pretty sweet achievement.
Who ever said that this has to be done in TGF/MMF?
I could use Construct or GameMaker if I wanted to.
Of course I am more experienced with TGF/MMF and probably will use it.
But I also didn't say that I would necessarily rotate the sprites either. Even that is unnecessary.
I just said that's a game that does fairly well with the use of only one sprite per character. I didn't say that I would utilise my one sprite in the same fashion.
Really what I most likely will do is just have special effects (with their own sprite) appear for the attacks in a sort of attack round timer fashion.
The enemies will all attack slightly differently based upon their distance from the character and what monster they are. I think I'll add a generic warning system, such as an exclamation mark appearing over the enemys head just before it initiates an attack sequence. And maybe if it loses sight of you, a question mark will appear over its head and it would go into a search mode movement routine.
Things like that interest me because I'd like to make a MMORPG in the fashion of Legends of Kesmai at some point in time, and this project is intended to be an easier to make mix of that and platforming.
In keeping it graphically simple I was truly hoping that it would spawn loads of helpers, since it would be so easy to doodle up some stuff. Everyone has a style and my doodling style needs improvement. Seeing how others scribble stuff together could possibly help with that.
I always have more than one goal for a project, and don't think that I've stopped on other projects because I've started new ones. I just figure that simple ones will get done faster and I really need to get some full games made instead of just the usual engine stuff I've been working at. I'll go back to the more complex ideas after making a few fun and totally complete games with bosses an' the like.
This project should spawn some of those games if all goes well.

That was my point, as I know you're a TGF/MMF coder that is why I pointed out the difference being that it's a flash game.
On the finishing projects, I'm kinda the same. I start a lot of things, build a lot of engines but at the moment I'm working on a personal project which has turned out to really showcase my development of skills in the engines and coding I've done over the past 6 months or so. I just haven't been game enough to post it cause it's really just something for myself at this point, but yeah.. it's all part of the kliking process
