Musics are finished
Posted 25th Mar 08, by MJK
Here's a music status update from the MJK Games Lead Musician, Okeanos, who has been working hard on the music tracks of Malayalam.

In Okeanos' words:

"Some infos about the musics in Malayalam - Island of Mysteries

The musics for the game are now finished!

There are 3 musics; Shipwrecked, Crab Arena and Mystic Places.

Shipwrecked

This is the main music of the game. I composed it thinking about the feeling of being alone on a desert island.

It's calm, relaxing but with a touch of mystery and melancholy - the feelings you could go through in this kind of situation and more particularly on Malayalam which is a very special place !

The result is something very "aquatic".

The most difficult thing was to "link" the different parts of the music to make something coherent and smooth.

Crab Arena

This is the music for the "crab arena" and also for the other minigames of Malayalam.

I wanted to make something very rythmed and fun at the same time.

Before knowing the idea of Crab arena minigame I had started a music with bongos and congas over a ternary rythm, but the bass and chords were too mysterious for such a game.

So, I kept the bongos and congas but over a binary rythm (disco-like drums), added some samba chords (something happy and entertaining) and guitars, a groovy bass and trumpets for a real disco arrangement.

- Yes, crabs do like disco!!

The result is an entertaining rythmed song that will "make you wanna crush some crabs and make a new record!"

Mystic places

This music has clearly a different atmosphere - it will be used for some sections of the game and time limited mission. This is calm and mysterious but more with a feeling of fear wandering around - as if anything could happen at any moment.

These musics represent about 3 months of (hard) work and some sleepless nights.

Hope you'll like the game."

After listening those musics just for the first time by myself, all I can say is that the audio side of Malayalam will definitely be something to look forward to.
