It's been awhile since I've made a post either here or on my website about the game but there's kind of an important thing to mention.

And that thing would be that although I WILL someday finish Hasslevania 2, it likely won't be ready for longer than I had originally thought. Maybe up to another year As much as I hate to say it, I just don't have the time to consistently work on it as much as it deserves to finish it by 2010. As it's probably going to be the last really big game I ever make I would very much like to complete it before I die of old age.

Hopefully everybody will be cool with the wait, but in order to work on this I really need to "want" to work on this. And sometimes that doesn't happen for a few days at a time. This only adds to the eventual release date, naturally.

Who knows, maybe then next post I make here will have some really cool pictures or news or another trailer?

Take your time. I know the feeling of having an ambitious project (similar genre as yours too) to work on, but then losing the interest to it every once in a while, especially if there's something tedious on the to-do list.

Sometimes it's good to willingly take a solid break from the project for a few weeks, to charge your batteries and to wait for inspiration.

Anyways, I'll be looking forward to this game, regardless of release date.

It's very hard to stay focused when the big picture has so much that needs to be done still. I'm trying to take it on now like each planet is its own game, and once one's done go to the next one. The thing is that they're all interlinked (is that even a word?) together so you have to keep in mind what abilities and stuff you find on one planet and where you have to go in order to progress somewhere else.

Balancing is beginning to get tough too. One game I always liked was the original NES Zelda, mostly because you could pretty much go to 90% of the game from the very start. I'm TRYING to do something a bit similar with this but you either are way too overpowered for some places or get your ass handed to you in some other places.

It's hard but I don't want to chicken out and take the easy way, by keeping the initial vision and scaling it back to be "just" one planet / game area aka the original Castle Hasslevania. I think a rest is in order and you're right HitmanN I'll probably come back to it in awhile with a fresh look on everything and wonder why I ever gave it a break in the first place.

UrbanMonk: Don't worry!

A current demo may be nice? Yes? Just to hold us over?

Del players always would be overpowered by using later powers in earliers level and you won't change it to much, OK maybe if you will add some new areas in old levels like caves, seas, skys where the bigger and stronger creatures and more complicated stuffs are going on.

Sorry Xhunterko but a demo in its current state isn't possible. Voices especially are the last thing that's going to get added to the game and I wouldn't want to put out a demo that didn't.. ah, "showcase" that. However when the demo is eventually released I did set it up to all make sense. It's almost built in a way that'd be perfect for a great demo actually, which is good news!

@ Fanoftherpg: Yeah I know what you mean about that but what I'm talking about are areas in between to weaker areas that are too tough. I've been going back and messing with some monster stats and it's more under control now. A lot of the issues were that the underwater enemies are pretty brutal, and if you fall into the water by accident you're basically screwed at the beginning. But the balancing act's getting better!
