Man, I've left ULSG hanging around for WAY too long. Sorry about the lack of updates, everyone! They'll come more frequently from now on - I've been in a "CBA, just chillin' out" kinda state recently.
Anyhoo, I've been continuing work on all of the Super Special modules. They're all in the single player mode, and they all work pretty well. I especially like the TrueGraze armour - it reduces your total health, but it's pretty handy if you JUST brush up against the enemy. Instead of taking damage, you get POINTS! Fans of Danmaku shooters may wanna give that module a try.
The final module I implemented was the Limit Breaker module, which is really useful, as it will save you from death once per game. It mixes particularly well with the Score Doubler, since the Score Doubler sets your maximum health to 1%. Although it sacrifices TrueGraze armour, a wider multiplier attraction area and 99% health, it's my favourite combination.
If you do end up setting off the Limit Breaker module, time will slow down, your health will be set to 1%, and a circle will appear on screen with a marker spinning around it. If you can hit the fire button when the marker is in the green zone of the circle before time runs out, then something special will happen. If you don't manage it, you're given a few seconds of Invincibility to help, but you're on your own after that.
I've made a video which shows the module in action, along with an Ultimate Fruit Frenzy sequence at the end. Check it out:
I quite like the crazy background effect I managed - it's inspired by Puyo Puyo Compendium's Fever Mode background... although it's not half as good.
I still have to make most of the modules unlockable, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem. After that, there's the last few Drones and ships to complete, then a bunch of Challenges to create, then a truckload of Achievements to finish off. Then I've gotta fix up the other game modes, and give the game some nice polish. Quite a bit left to do, but I'll get it done.
One last thing you may find interesting - for my next piece of C# coursework, I have to make a 3D game demo of my own choosing. I decided to submit a proposal for Ultimate Lame Ship Game 2, and it was accepted. Not actually sure if my tutor read it very well, but no matter, I've been wanting to try and make a 3D version of ULSG, but I haven't really had the time. Now, I HAVE to have the time, otherwise I'll fail the assignment. Great opportunity!
Well, anyway, I wanted to show you a couple of concept designs for ULSG 2, just so you can get an idea of what may come in the future.
They'll probably change, and I don't have any 3D graphics I can use at the moment to make a full "concept screenshot", but it's pretty accurate. Besides, I reckon it's good to get the basic ideas down now, so I don't forget them.
That's me for now - I'll be back soon! No, it won't be over a month this time.
